

Edward Mark Duncan loved father, grandfather, uncle and friend will be remembered and missed. Ed was born December 7, 1921 in Clyde Michigan to Richard F. Duncan and Bernice Alice Tyler. Ed graduated Royal Oak High School before enlisting in the WWII, Army in 1942. During his service with the Army he attended Stanford University. He was deployed traveling aboard the SS Lois Pasteur to France and then Germany with the 788th Battalion as a 1st Staff Sargent. In 1945 in a field near Lippe, Germany near the Rhine River Ed was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions and bravery during battle. He enjoyed retelling the WWII war history and how he and a buddy picked up Albert Speer from the British and drove him in an open jeep to the International Center in Nuremberg. In addition to other Military service awards he was most proud of receiving the French Legion of Honor Medal. After 7 years of Army service Ed returned to the Detroit area and remained in the Army Reserves for an additional 3 years. As a young boy Ed learned to work hard and often worked as a golf caddie. As an adult Ed was a scratch golfer even in his senior years, he was a lifetime member of the Detroit Golf Club, Pine Lake Country Club, Huron River Hunting and Fishing Club and Lakeland Country Club. Ed’s Army service, golfing prowess (he had a lifetime 3 holes in 1) and easy nature no doubt helped him to gain employment in the auto paint and coatings industry. Ed worked as a Senior Account Representative for the most prestigious companies in the automobile coating industry, Celanese, United Technologies, BASF and Dupont, retiring in 1988. Ed Married Lillian Gagne in 1955, settling down in their home in Birmingham, Michigan where they raised their 2 children Lisa and Mark. Traveling back and forth for many years to West Palm Beach, Florida during the winters he finally relocated to Florida in 2002 permanently. Living in West Palm Beach a few blocks from his Children and 2 beloved granddaughters Lauren Carey and Lyndsey Carey. As a child of the depression Ed could be frugal often preferring canned beans and weenies to steak but could often be generous helping his granddaughters with their education tuition expenses. Ed passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home as he wished it to be. Edward is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gerald Duncan, sisters Marjorie Jones, Dorothy Ferns and Rose Marie Walsh, nephews John Ferns, Richard Ferns, Rob Ferns, Ed Ferns, Craig Stevens. Survived by: Daughter Lisa Duncan Carey, son in law Michael Carey, son Mark Edward Duncan, granddaughters Lauren Carey and Lyndsey Carey, sister Ellyn Rojas, and his best friends George and Susie Vickers, nephews Timothy Duncan (Marilyn), Ronald Walsh (Rita), Billy Ferns, David Ferns, Donnie Ferns, nieces Lynn Statton (Bob), Joni Jones (Steve), Sharyl Culver (Dave), Rosanne Lewis (Greg), Maureen Asher (Gary). A memorial service will be taking place Friday February 16th at 12:30pm at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL. Follow by Internment at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL.
