He leaves his wife of 60 years, Mary; his children, John, Margaret, Dwight, and Caroline; as well as 6 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. His legacy also includes 3 generations of over 45 nieces and nephews to whom he was known, literally and figuratively, as "the Patriarch". Edward was predeceased by his twin sister, Marion, and his brother, John.
He was born in Geneva, New York in 1922, attended Hobart College, received an I.A. degree from Harvard in 1943, and spent the next 3 years in the Navy, based in Australia. Upon his return, he worked several positions in upstate New York and then received an MA in 1952 from the University of Rochester. Upon graduation, Ed moved to Manhattan and entered the banking profession, where he stayed until his retirement.
He married Mary Faulkner in 1954, residing in NYC for 3 years before moving to Mahwah, New Jersey. Ed lived in Mahwah for 35 years, where he raised his family and was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey. In his free time, he enjoyed attending sporting events, scouting, and other activities with his children. Summer holidays on Cape Cod and in the Adirondacks were treasured by all.
In retirement, he moved to West Yarmouth, MA in 1992, where he was an active member of the Hyannis Federated Church and volunteered at Cape Cod Community College, the Salvation Army, the Housing Assistance Corporation, and CHAMP Homes.
He and Mamie moved to Mangrove Bay in 2003. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta and volunteered at the Juno Beach Hospice Shop. He was head of Mangrove's Employees Benefit fund, and he initiated several activities including the Sunday Vesper Service, Bocce Ball, Putting at the Bay, and The Mystery Trip.
Edward Lansing touched the minds and hearts of many during his 92 years. He was a humble and selfless man whose life was dedicated to family, community, and volunteerism. His life goals of defying the actuarial tables and leaving his wife and children on a solid foundation have been undisputedly achieved.
