SMITH, Jewell Parker of Lake Clarke Shores, FL passed away on April 14, 2016. She was born in Smileytown, Alabama, on June 24, 1921. After graduating from Ramer, Alabama, High School, she moved to Montgomery where she worked as an Olin Mills Studio photographer. Those were the war years, and her and her friends’ favorite pastime was dancing at the USO in Montgomery under the watchful eye of Mrs. Prentice.
In 1946 she met and married Tim Smith which was to be a 64 year love affair until Tim died in 2011. During their marriage they travelled all over the country and the world to a number of Tim’s Air Force duty stations which included Spain and Japan. After Tim’s retirement from the Air Force they moved back to West Palm Beach where Tim was stationed in the 1950s. In retirement, Jewell was a dedicated member of the West Palm Beach Garden Club, and she and Tim loved dancing, going to reunions with their Air Force friends, and all of their church activities. She had a big heart, and she would always respond to someone’s “I love you” with “I love you best”.
Jewell is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Joan Smith, her granddaughter, Sydney Smith, her brother, Lucian Parker (Sybil), many nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Kim, her close friend Dottie, her caregivers, Pam, Barbara and Tracy as well as many, many dear friends from the Air Force years, from church and from her neighborhood of over 40 years.
Visitation will be from 5:00-6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 with the service immediately following at 6:00 PM at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL, CREMATION & EVENT CENTER, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33417.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jewell’s memory to Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach, FL or Grace Immanuel Bible Church in Jupiter, FL.
