Joan D. Abbott-Burny, 92, of Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on November 18, 2023. She was born on April 4, 1931, in Berwyn, Illinois. Joan was a remarkable woman who made a significant impact on those around her.
Joan was a dedicated professional, passionate about her career until her retirement in 2002. She was the President of Joan Abbott and Associates, specializing in corporate meeting planning and events. Throughout her career, she traveled the world, planning events such as the Sarajevo and LA Olympic Games. Joan also had the honor of hosting numerous dinners for dignitaries, including President Gerald Ford. Her expertise and attention to detail were unparalleled.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Joan cherished time spent with her family. She is survived by her four children, James and spouse Nancy, David, Michael and spouse Amy, and Laura spouse Philip as well as her eight grandchildren, Rufus, Audrey, Natalie, Nick, Charlie, Gracie, Lily, and Jack. Joan's love extended to her loyal companion, her dog Bob. She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Jule F. Burny (Mr. B).
Joan had a zest for life and pursued many hobbies. She enjoyed watching movies, reading, poetry, listening to music, playing tennis, and exploring the world through travel. Her exceptional gourmet cooking skills brought joy to family and friends.
A memorial mass will be held in Joan's honor on January 4th at 10:00 am at St. Edwards Catholic Church. Following the service, a reception will be held at the family home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude, the Red Cross, or the Police Benevolent Association.
Dignity Funeral Home in Palm Beach, Florida, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
