From the first time we met after MIDEM in Forte Di Marmi, Italy we were a pair that finished each other’s' sentences. Godfather is what I used to call him, always smiling, always upbeat and I always said I wanted to grow up to be just like him, we always laughed at that one.
Sadness, heartbroken, emotionally drained on our loss... Reid you will certainly never be forgotten. I know you contacted me the day you left us, I had that ring in my brain from you, I got your mental message to call you... sadly it was too late.
Gonna miss you pal, all of us will.
Rest in heaven Godfather, ‘till we meet again.

It took me all this time to come up with words and I still do not have them. Reid was the one who put words to my music. We met 50 years ago and are the same age. He was a great friend and business partner and it is hard for me to believe we cannot be in contact. Our music lives on, much as a result of Reid's charm and energy. I think he knows. He is certainly missed by me and many others. Love to Louisa and Reid's family.

Seems like yesterday (1985) when we met on the plane to Midem. An honor to be your friend and lawyer. Goody goody gumdrops

My overriding memory of Reid was meeting him for the first time at the National Hotel many years ago over breakfast at the annual Miami winter music conference; we had a wonderful conversation about the incredible catalogue of music he had and from that moment on we became very good friends.
Each year in Miami and Midem in the south of France we would look forward to meet and have our reunion dinner with his other great friends and his wonderful partner Louisa.
My deepest condolences to all of Reid's family and close friends.
You will be sorely missed but like your beautiful catalogue of songs your wonderful smile will stay in ours hearts forever.
God bless and rest in peace Reid.

Reid was simply a joy to be with. He embodied charm, sophistication and warmth! He was always an upper making every occasion so special with his positive outlook and great sense of humor.
Reid and Louisa were an outstanding couple and they loved and supported one another. Louisa has devoted herself to Reid and never complained about caring for him. They were so much in love. Most people will probably never experience the love these two shared. We will miss you Reid. No one could ever replace you!

Shirley, Sarah and I were heartbroken when we heard of Reid's passing.
Reid Whitelaw was my friend for almost half a century. We met in NYC in 1971 and not long after Reid introduced me to Joel Diamond and our three lives have been intertwined ever since.

Our mutual love of music and the music business bound us together. My annual trip to Cannes, France for MIDEM was always celebrated with a dinner at Restaurant Le Maschou with Reid and more recently with Reid and the lovely Louisa.

Shirley, Sarah and I will always remember the good times.
Rest in Peace.

My wife Paulette and I met Reid in 2004, when we first moved to Palm Beach. We were immediately welcomed into his circle of friends and relations. We cherished our birthday and holiday times with his father, sister, and with Susan Coleman and Margie Dyer. Reid’s early days in rock-and-roll and rhythm and blues, as well as his own later “bubble gum” music provided us with hours of nostalgia and a glowing view of musical history. We shall miss him greatly.

Margaret Diedrich, Michael O'Connor and I have enjoyed Reid's friendship for many years, whether on the street or at various social events in our respective homes. He was gentle and sweet, obviously taking after his late father, Leonard. We shall miss him.

Dear Buddy,

You were my uncle by birth. You were my big brother by choice. Together, we were the Buddy System. When I was 4 and you were 19, we made a pact that we would be one another's best men at each other's weddings. 23 years later, you were the best man at my wedding. Seven years after that, I was the best man at your wedding. The pact was complete.

From you, I gained the love of music. I may find my bliss singing classical, sacred music, but because of you, I came to appreciate a very wide and eclectic range of music. I remember sitting with you at the piano (I was only 4) with you playing and singing your songs to me. I have always been proud to say that I am the nephew of someone who is so accomplished in the music field. Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, after you say hey to Elvis, please look up Johann Sebastian Bach and Thomas Tallis and tell them that I look forward to working with them in the (hopefully) distant future.

I have to admit, I was sometimes jealous in my youth of your lifestyle. The travel, the beautiful women, the freedom and glamour of your Jet Set lifestyle was very appealing. As we got older, however, I began to see in you that you wanted what I already had, a long term and committed relationship. I am very happy that you finally found that with Louisa. Knowing that you were not alone at the end gives me a great deal of solace. Knowing how happy the two of you were brings me great joy.

I will miss you buddy. I will miss your sage advice and your smile. I will miss your love and support. I will miss The Buddy System.

I love you Buddy. Give my love to Grandma, Pops, and my dad. Until we meet again.

Your buddy always,

I met Reid back in the late 1970s when he visited with his sister's family. He was very warm, creative and funny. I fell in love with how much affection he showed for my then boyfriend, Todd, his nephew. We visited him in his New York City apartment several times, his summer retreat in Center Moriches, and his beloved Singer Island home near his beloved parents. He adored his family, friends and especially his music. He introduced us to his disco music through the movie, Nocturna. He had amazing talents in what he wrote and produced.

I always felt welcome in his presence. We had many great talks over the years about what makes for great relationships and his family history and dynamics. I am proud to have known him and married into his family. His memory will always be very sweet, but he was gone way too early.

Love you always, Buddy...

Love, B.u.d.d.e.t.t.e. (Barbara Gardner)
