Winifred (Winnie) J. Vandergrift, 84, of West Palm Beach passed away on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014. She made her passing surrounded by her family and friends in an abundance of love. She was born in Springfield, IL to the late Raymond and Jeanette Bullock. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Miami, College of Education and obtained her Master’s in Library Science from the University of South Florida. She spent her career in public education.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Donald Vandergrift in 2001. Winnie and Don were avid Florida Gator football fans attending as many home games as possible as well as traveling far and wide to away games whenever they could. They spent their free time camping with their family and volunteering as camp ground hosts.
Winnie was a lifetime member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church and she was a devoted student of the bible. Her greatest joy was the love of her children, grandchildren, and great children.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends and remembered as loving, kind, generous, not to mention a bit sassy. Not to be forgotten, she believed that “a little bit of levity” goes a long way. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Linda Considine of West Palm Beach, Kathryn Brown (Robert) of Big Pine Key and Charlene Sipila (Jim) of Lawrenceburg, KY, grandchildren; Andrew, Laurel and Anna Cosidine, Crystal McAliley and Linda Waite, great-grandchildren, Anna and Patrick McAliley, Kelsey Thull, and Scott and Naomi Waite.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Tropical Sands Church, 2726 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.
