I’m so happy we were able to have our mini reunion of our Oliver class a few years ago. It was great catching up with you and reminiscing of our two years in Homeroom 101 with you at school #77.

My sincere condolences to Bob family. I'll always remember his smile, singing, playing the piano and decorating, especially around this time. 

I was a student at Campus East from 1980-1989 and was in class with Carrie (his granddaughter). Mr. Grochowiak was a fine man and excellent teacher. I have so many fond memories of leaning different types of music in his class, the emphasis on foot tapping and the word “enunciate”.  Sending wishes of peace and love to his beloved family and hope they are able to take comfort in a life well lived and impactful to thousands of students.    

Spent alot of time at the Easton Avenue house growing up back in the day. The man could really jam and also had the most impeccable lawn in the neighborhood. 🙏

My name is Timothy Bowles. Mr. Grochowiak introduce me to Jazz as a 2nd grader at Campus East. I’m now a 44 year old man, and every time I turn on my Coltrane, Davis, Glasper, etc., Mr Grochowiak comes to my mind. His piano playing made me fall in love with the instrument. I too, remember his Grandson “Jamie W”, a classmate of mine, playing some mean drums!!! I own a poster, that Mr G had in his room that says, “All That Jazz.” I’m so sorry for your loss, please accept my condolences.

I still to this day remember music class and playing my first play i was in which he directed “Jack and the bean stalk”!!! He definitely had a huge impact on us students and was a great music teacher. He will be missed! My deepest condolences to the family and his grandson Joshua. 

I still to this day remember the songs we sang in music class.  Some wonderful memories.  Job well done sir.  May you rest peacefully.  My condolences to his family and friends.

Bob was a great teacher and mentor.to the new teachers assigned in 1973.He worked hard to turn Elementary and Junior High School kids into budding musicians .He tried  his best..He wasn't a Quitter. He was a role model for people who tried to emulate him through his hard work and leadership. You will never be forgotten. You will be missed. Ed Wartko@yahoo.com


Rest peacefully Mr. Grochowiak.  I will never forget Campus East music classes. My parents and I talk about the songs from the assemblies to this day 20+ years later.  Condolences to his friends and family 

RIP to the man who helped fuel my love of music. I loved your passion for what you taught. Thank you.
