Alan was born on November 5, 1954, he was the 5th child of 6 to Norman & Carol Beesley. He spent the first part of his life in Salt Lake City, making friends and going to school, where he received the “Hope of America” award in 6th grade. He was one of two people chosen and was very proud of that. He loved sports and in 7th grade he set records at Jordan Jr. High for the mile, half mile, and the 440 and 880 relays. Those records stood until the school was demolished. Alan graduated from West High in 1973.
After graduation he went to work for Salt Lake City Public Utilities, working his way up to supervisor. He retired in 2008 at the age of 53. He loved being able to spend these last years with his family.
In 1974, he met Nancy Evensen. They were married on October 18, 1978. They built a home in Taylorsville Utah, where they would remain until his passing. They enjoyed traveling and family, but they were happiest when daughter Jennifer was born in 1982, and son Justin was born in 1984.
He loved his family to no end, and they were his priority above all else. Spending every moment together was as precious as gold. His family was his life.
Alan loved sports of all kinds, and spent his entire life involved in sports, mainly golf, softball and basketball. As the kids grew older, he would be their coach and biggest supporter. He supported each child and grandchild whole-heartedly by showing up early and staying late at their activities, because no matter what they chose to do in life, Alan was always there cheering the loudest, and he always wanted to make sure that everyone felt included and was treated equally. He continued playing ball himself until he got sick in 2023.
His presence was so large that everyone he came in contact with seemed to remember his face and name or “Beesley” as they would call him. He touched their lives through his kindness and warmth. Alan was someone you could count on for help or support whenever you needed it. He always said that by helping others, it brought him happiness.
He loved the outdoors and his crazy techno music.
Alan was a loyal friend. He treasured his friendships, and always made sure his friends were doing okay. He was extremely proud of the fact that he had 4 best friends in his life. Glen Davis, Jerry Terkelson, Duane Chatwin (deceased), and Mark Wilding. He considered them his brother’s. He was proud of being a true friend to all. He was always dependable and left a lasting impression.
Above all else was his love for his whole family. He wanted that to be his legacy!
Alan’s favorite quote was from Nightbirde - “You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy.” He embodied this quote with his positive attitude once he got sick. He fought until the end, never wanting to leave Nancy and his family. He was more than his cancer, as he always told us.
Alan is survived by his wife, Nancy. Children, Jennifer & Ryan Goble, Justin & Susan Beesley. Also, by the four angels that gave him his favorite name, Papa!
Madison Goble, Sophia, Cooper and Zander Beesley. Sister, Shirleen Watt. Brothers, Vern & Paul Beesley. And many other family members. He loved all of them dearly.
Alan was preceded in death by: Parents, Norman & Carol Beesley, In-law's Yngvar (Hank) & Britta Evensen. Sisters, Norma Beesley & Eileen Wood, also brother-in-law's Eugene Wood, George Watt, & Michael Yates.
