Our loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, Alfred Franklin Poland, 79, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2012 at home in Kearns, Utah. He was born on December 30, 1932 in Cresaptown, Maryland to Joseph A. and Evelyn Lease Poland. He attended Southern High School in Maryland.
Al served in the US Army during the Korean War. While stationed at Dugway he met and married the love of his life, Marjorie Woodruff. They were married on March 5, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they had 4 children.
Al had 2 passions, his family and baseball. He loved coaching, managing, and mentoring the youth for over 40 years. He worked for Englehard for 38 years.
He is survived by his loving children: Beverly (Dennis) Rowley, George (Darlene) Poland, Jeffrey (LaNae) Poland, David (Sylvinia) Poland; brothers, Harold, Richard and Leonard Poland; sister, Carol Metz; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a wonderful extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and wife, Marjorie.
Funeral services for Alfred will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, where friends may visit with the family on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the service. Interment: Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah
