Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather Blaine Broadhead Harper age 93 passed away peacefully with family at his side on December 14, 2014. He was born at home in Albion, Idaho, on October 12, 1921 to Leslie Thomas Harper and Ida Broadhead. He was the oldest of nine children.
Blaine graduated from Paul High School in 1939 and went to the University of Idaho in the fall of 1940. After Pearl Harbor, he joined the Naval Air V5. He flew the AT 6 and Vultee Vibrator in Corpus Christi, Texas. He then served in various Naval Air Stations and even practiced carrier landings out of Oakland.
Blaine served a mission for the LDS church in the Central States Mission and married Hazel Joyce Taylor June 27, 1948, soon after his return. Together they had nine children living in both Idaho and Utah.
After Joyce’s death, he married Nevaida Ries on December 28, 1987 and became a stepfather to seven children. In the fall of 1990, Blaine and Nevaida were called to serve in the Micronesia, Guam Mission and later in Nauvoo.
Blaine is survived by his children Arlaine Austin, Taylor Harper, Paul Harper, Gregory Harper, Haze Eldredge, Steven Harper, David Harper, and James Harper, as well as seven of Nevaida’s children, Naidra Rowland, Lahna Strong, Larry Van Bloem (deceased) Daynia Lewis, Mark Van Bloem, Andrea Hudson and Eric Ries. With combined families he is Grandpa to 62+ grandchildren, and 89+ great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heather Ridge Stake Center, 450 East 2000 North, Orem, Utah. Viewing will be Saturday from 12-12:45 p.m. Interment: Orem City Cemetery. www.valleyviewfuneral.com
