Burton Hoopes, age 70, died June 14, 2010 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 4, 1939 to Clyde Burton Hoopes and Alberta Dalley. Married LaPreal Gygi on February 21, 1968 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Burt was an active member of the L.D.S. Church, he served an honorable mission to the New England States, and has held many other callings in which he served faithfully. He was a true example of service. He voluntarily helped loved ones or strangers alike with any task great or small. He had many talents and skills, and thought he could fix anything, and usually did. He earned a degree in Tax Preparation and Accounting, which he did for many years, even in his final days.
He had a passion for music and was a talented pianist, and participated in singing groups and church choirs throughout his life. He also enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, photography, computer networking, and HAM radio. He was a caring, devoted husband and father who provided endlessly for the needs of his family, and had a strong testimony and love for the gospel. He touched lives of so many people, and had many special friends who loved him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Survived by his loving wife, LaPreal of 42 years; children, Jodi Hoopes, Susan Austin, Karen (Cortley) Maughan, Diane Skougard and Mark Hoopes; 12 grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Phil) Russell, and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, and son, Scott.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hunter 17th Ward Chapel, 3754 South 6400 West. The family will receive friends at a viewing held on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Ward. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
