Our beloved, “Nana” Carol Ann Dillingham, age 82, died April 12, 2021 in West Valley City, Utah. She was born December 30, 1938 in Provo, Utah. She was adopted by Alvie and Marie Peterson at the age of one. She married the love of her life, Donald A. Dillingham on January 22, 1955. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, children, Chuck (Lori), Lisa (Roger). She was preceded in death by her children, Scott, Camie and at infancy, Ricky. She had 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 on the way. Family was everything to Carol as she was truly everyone’s “Nana!”
Carol grew up in Sugarhouse and North Salt Lake, graduated from West High School with honors. She attended Trade Tech and the University of Utah to obtain her RN degree, along with many other certifications. That is where she become a diehard Utah Utes fan. She was a scholar student and was always top of her class. Her first job experience was working for her parent’s at the “The Richy Theater.” Even though she didn’t earn a paycheck, it did teach her the values of being responsible, honest, dependable and devoted to her work. These were some of her main attributes throughout her life and all her endeavors, which she carried on over the years, while working at Granger Medical Clinic and the U of U business office.
Carol was involved in many organizations throughout her life span such as: Cub Scouts, PTA, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Catholic Diocese, LDS Relief Society, Jail Ministry for the Sheriff Organization and so many more over the years. She made a pledge to stand up for what she believed in, by helping people better themselves in going forward, making a difference for a greater outcome.
She has so many amazing talents from crocheting, sewing, playing the organ and piano so eloquently that you would be mesmerized by the beauty of it’s sound! She grew up with limitations and had to apply all skills and ingenuity into whatever she did. She truly enjoyed working in her beautiful yard and the fruits of her labor in canning what she grew.
These last few years Carol had endured her illness with great fortitude, as it had inhibited her from doing what she loved. However, that never stopped her from being a giver. She showed unconditional love to everyone she came in contact with. She would help those who suffered and taught this at every opportunity as it came naturally to her. She was spiritual, unbiased and respectful for each person and had a way of making them believe in themselves. Her ever loving kindness will be missed tremendously. Her interactions spent on social media, funny expressions and mismatched slippers were legendary!
In memory of Carol, one should choose an attribute of her and live life with this incorporated into their daily lives. This would mean more to her than all the monetary riches one could possess. See one thing about Carol was…You came into this life with nothing and you leave with nothing, so be sure to leave YOUR impression!
Services will be held Friday, April 16, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Valley View Funeral Home, 4100 South 4335 West, West Valley City. This will be an open house, as per Carol’s wishes, she will be cremated therefore there will be no graveside service.
