Carolyn was born on August 3, 1939, the youngest daughter of Seymour Young Horton and Anna Rosina Johnson. Carolyn grew up in South Salt Lake where she was spoiled by her parents, her brothers Lee and Dexter and her sister Darlene. She loved them very much and was loved by them. Carolyn started working in her dad’s grocery store at a young age when she had to stand on a box to reach the cash register; she had many wonderful memories of the times spent working and playing with her family. She graduated from Granite High School where she made many lifelong friends, especially her wonderful Granite Girls Club ladies. She met the love of her life, Leonard Nelson Burton, in school and their high school romance blossomed into a wonderful marriage. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 15, 1960. Five children were blessed to have Carolyn and Leonard as parents, Bradley (Sandee), Brian (Helen), Lebron (Jinger), Blake (Christie) and Gail. They had wonderful times in Salt Lake City, Moab and Murray. Carolyn and Leonard were later divorced.
Carolyn went to work for Questar Pipeline where she spent many years progressing through the regulatory group. Carolyn earned a Bachelor Degree in Business from the University of Phoenix and retired from Questar Pipeline after 25 years. She was very proud of her time with Questar Pipeline where she was an integral part of the regulatory team.
Carolyn was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a close relationship with her Father in Heaven. She served in many callings in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society and is lovingly remembered for her service as a Ward and Stake Relief Society President. She loved her work in both the Jordan River and Bountiful Temples.
In 1989, Carolyn married Richard Crabtree and together they made a wonderful life in West Valley City. They enjoyed their extended family get togethers where they would entertain and enjoy their many children and grandchildren. Carolyn and Richard served a proselyting mission together in Nauvoo IL where they made many friends and loved helping the people they met. They also served an MLS mission in the Salt Lake City West Mission where they shared their love for the gospel with many of their neighbors. They were later divorced.
Carolyn passed away on March 9, 2022, surrounded by her family in Kearns, Utah, from complications related to Dementia. She was greeted in heaven by her son Brian, who was killed in an automobile accident that morning on his way to see her. She was also happy to be reunited with her parents, brother Dexter, sister Darlene and her granddaughter Sommer. Carolyn is survived by her brother Lee, 4 children, 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 step children with 25 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Summit Senior Living for their loving care of our mother. Special thanks to Harmony Health and Hospice, especially Annabella Yee, who not only lovingly cared for mom for a year, but became a wonderful friend. Mom would light up every time Annabella came in to see her. We would also like to thank Richard for his many hours of loving companionship and care for mom during her final months. We love you, Richard.
