Born December 14th, 1941 to Burton Napier and Wanda Ward Napier in Malad City, Idaho. She passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on April 4th, 2024 at her home in West Valley City, Utah at the age of 82.
Deanna was raised on a small farm in Malad City, Idaho and spent her early years as a rough-and-tumbled cowgirl, working long hours chasing cattle on horseback and doing chores on the farm before starting her school day. She was always proud of enduring the hardships of life on the farm, and you could see the toughness that it instilled in her right up to her final days while battling cancer.
She graduated from Malad High School where she played clarinet in the music department. After graduating, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and attended beauty school. She then met and married Seymour Otto Oblad on August 31, 1962. Together they had 6 beautiful children and were happily married for more than 61 years. During that time, the family lived in Salt Lake City, Utah; Fullerton, California; Syracuse, New York; Littleton, Colorado; Cottonwood, Utah and Boise, Idaho before permanently settling in West Valley City, Utah in 1980. Deanna was a loving mother and caregiver, and it was apparent to everyone that met her that family meant the world to her.
Deanna was a stay-at-home mom for many years until she began her career in 1981 at Primary Children's Medical Center in the NICU and Nursery Unit, where she and her daughter Tina had the pleasure of working together. She later moved to the University of Utah Pediatric Clinic 6 as a clerk, then subsequently moved to the Medical Billing Department until she retired. She set a wonderful example in life for her kids, and many of her strengths can be seen in them today.
Deanna was a devoted and lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she faithfully and happily served in whatever capacity she was called to. One of her greatest callings was when she and Seymour served a senior mission in the Stockholm Sweden Temple. She was always active in the choir, which brought her great joy. She loved family and friends. She always tried to emulate the Savior's Love by serving and supporting those around her. Her testimony of Jesus Christ and the restored gospel were evident in everything she did throughout her life. It brought her great strength and peace while enduring her life’s trials, and solace and comfort through the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents (David Burton Napier and Wanda May Ward Napier); her brother and sister-in-law (Lynn Bardell Napier and Emogene Smith Napier); her sister (Wanda Ilene Napier Stettler Wharton); Seymour's parents (Seymour McAllister Oblad and Elizabeth Marie Borgquist Oblad); their daughters (Pamela Oblad Kosti and Teresa Oblad Freebairn) and countless other family and friends.
She leaves behind her Eternal Companion (Seymour Otto Oblad); four children (TinaMarie Oblad Winn, Anthony Seymour Oblad, Steven Kendal Oblad, David James Oblad); five sons and daughters-in-law, twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Deanna was deeply loved by all, and while her love and support will be sorely missed by all still on earth, she has now joined in heaven so many others that she loved and had missed.
