Howard Condie

Howard Gibson Condie, 81, died peacefully Friday, June 21, 2014, in Orem/Provo, Utah.

Howard was born January 20, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Gibson Condie and Hilda Marie Mann Condie. He attended Monroe School first grade through ninth grade and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1951. Howard participated in all sports, receiving football scholarships from Westminster College and Brigham Young University. He served his country as a Corporal (CPL) in the U.S. Army; he received an honorable discharge January 19, 1955. He married Karen Petersen July 19, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple, who he loved dearly. Howard played football “Tackle” position for BYU, graduating in the spring of 1959, in Education. He was proud to be a Cougar.

Howard taught at Cyprus High School, in the Granite School District, for 36 years, retiring in August 1995. He was to be inducted into the Cyprus High School Hall of Fame in September 2014, honoring him for his years of coaching many sports and teaching driver’s education to generations of students. Howard was currently employed at A-1 Driving School; he worked there for 30 years. Howard taught driver’s education for 55 years.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the Bishopric, Elders Quorum, High Priest Group leadership and Scouting programs. Through Howard’s teaching career with students and his various church callings, he loved many and served diligently.

Howard forever will “Rise and Shout, and cheer the Cougars of BYU.” His stories, love of the great outdoors, sense of humor, work ethic, service towards others, passion for life, and testimony of the Gospel will continue to be his legacy.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Thelma Mann and his twin, Helen Sanderson. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Petersen Condie; their children, Bryan Howard (Lynn), Calvin Gibson (Carrie), Russell Noalen (Colette), and Lynette (Stanford) Hadley. He received great joy from his 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Woodbury.

Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Valley View Memorial Park, 4391 West 4100 South, West Valley City,
