His confidence on the dance floor provided the fuel for the meet-cute at a dance at Utah State University where he danced his way into the heart of his eternal companion, Beverly.
His children were the beneficiaries of his boundless generosity of time, love and resources. Jim was always the first in line to assist financially and when accidents happened the only concern displayed was for the people involved, never the loss of property. This generosity extended to the whole world, he was proud of his three missions of service on behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A mischievous man by nature, there was always a twinkle in his eye and a twitch of his lip when either engaged in his own mischievous behavior or when telling or hearing stories of mischievousness in others. He always enjoyed tales of his grandchildren engaging in pranks, tricks, larks and friskiness.
Open and accepting of other people, he truly enjoyed both meeting and listening to others as well as observing people silently. This acceptance of other’s differences created an attitude of living an authentic life without care of others judgment of him. Friends, family and any visitors expected a hearty and boisterous greeting every time they visited his home.
He imagined himself a “grumpy old man” in the mold of the movies of the same name, but everyone knew it was just an act, that his kindness, compassion, and caring would always be on display when it truly mattered.
His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him, including but certainly not limited to, his children Jeri Dawson, Diane(Allan) Trettin, Bryan(Sarah) Dawson, Suzy(Matt) Smith, grandchildren Jessica, Tyler, Alec, Stockton, Jaxson, Dawson, Cannon, Oliver and Henryk and his great grandchildren Blake and Beckham.
