John's adventurous childhood in Wyoming set the stage for his life. After graduating from
Riverton High School, he moved to Utah, where he met and fell in love with a cute girl named Linda. John and Linda were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1964 and have one son and three daughters, whom he loved dearly and taught by example.
John worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 35 years. He worked in the Office of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and in the Temple Department. He met lifelong friends and had many unforgettable experiences. He loved his work, and he loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the years, he served in many ward and stake callings including as Bishop and counselor in the Stake Presidency.
In his free time, he could often be found working in the yard. He had a love of horticulture and knew the name of every flower, plant and tree. He especially loved to grow orchids. During his childhood, John’s family moved frequently. We think this is why he had a knack for remembering names and making friends. His family would always joke that he couldn’t go anywhere, even on vacation, and not run into someone he knew.
After his retirement, John and Linda enjoyed serving as ordinance workers at the Jordan River Temple, where John was also a sealer. In 2017, he served a full-time mission with his sweetheart at the Nauvoo Temple. He blessed many lives through his genealogy, temple, and church service.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda, his children, Jane Wilkins (Jeffery), John Hardy, Christina Searle (David) and Heather Hardy; 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother and was anxious to see them again.
