1/20/1964 - 12/30/2020
“Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.”
Julie left this world on December 30th, 2020 in her West Jordan home with her family by her side. Anyone lucky enough to have been her relative or friend could tell you that Julie was a deeply caring, endlessly loving, and incredibly patient ray of light. Her friends will always remember her as a fun-loving gal who was always ready for an outing with drinks, laughs, and enjoyable conversation. Her family will forever know her as a seemingly bottomless well of compassion, support, and encouragement. Julie had a fire in her heart that burned for her family. No matter what struggles would face her personally, Julie would worry about the needs of others first.
In 1964, Julie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lawrence and Clara "Jean" McKendrick. She would go on to graduate from Cyprus High School in Magna. In 1989, Julie married Donald Markus, a testament to how much love and patience she truly had. Their love would hold strong through many ups and downs. Together, they cultivated a loving home environment for their two children, Jesse and Jade, and each of the family's beloved dogs.
While time may heal all wounds, there is no denying that a deep scar will be left behind. Julie's vast love of Christmas made the holiday seasons shine brighter, her laugh made campfire gatherings more wholesome, and her warmth made even the darkest times more bearable. Although she never got to live out her days on a tropical beach, she definitely found little ways to bring paradise to us every day.
Julie is survived by her husband, Don Markus, her son, Jesse (and wife, Marli), daughter, Jade Markus, her mother, Jean McKendrick, and her brothers, Danny and Steve (and wife, Sheri) McKendrick. She is preceded in death by her father, Larry McKendrick, and her brother, David McKendrick. Due to pandemic restrictions, there will not be a traditional service. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 6th at Valley View Memorial Park, starting at 1 PM. The family asks all who are attending the service to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. A celebration of life will be organized and announced at a later date.
The family also wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the fine people at the Utah Cancer Center and Elevation Hospice for their amazing work and assistance throughout this difficult time.
