October 2, 1971 – October 4, 2025
It is with overwhelming sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Kandeece Shantel Keitz, known affectionately as Kan, on October 4th, 2025.
Born on October 2nd, 1971, weighing just 3 pounds 2 ounces, Kan entered this world already proving she was a fighter. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with courage and strength—surviving a serious car accident, learning to walk multiple times, surviving serious health concerns and continuing to fight with the same resilience and spirit until the very end.
After graduating from Cyprus High School, Kan married James Vialpando, with whom she shared three beautiful daughters. Though their paths eventually diverged, they remained friends throughout her life. Later, she married Ted Deherrera, who already had three sons, Austin, Jacob and Zackary Deherrera and together they welcomed their beloved son, completing her family.
Kan lived in many places throughout her life, but her heart was always rooted in the Salt Lake Valley. Everywhere she went, she carried warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging that made every space feel like home.
She is survived by her her loving husband Ted Deherrera; adoring children Trista Vialpando (John), Adriana Vialpando (Joseph), Jaycee Vialpando, and Dominic Deherrera; her brothers Joseph Monsen (Cassie) and Joshua Monsen; her sister Rachael Urry (Ryan); and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kelly Keitz and Pattie Brett-Keitz Monsen, with whom we know she now rests peacefully.
Throughout her life, Kan wore many hats, but the one that meant the most to her was caring for children. Her time in childcare reflected her nurturing heart and her gift for making every child feel seen, safe, and loved. A proud graduate of Cyprus High School and attendee of Westminster University, Kan was bright, curious, and always full of life.
To everyone who knew her, Kan was the party. She was the laughter that filled a room, the shoulder to lean on, the one with the right words—or the right joke—at the perfect time. She captured memories, held stories, and gave love freely. To many, she wasn’t just Kan—she was Mom, she was sister, she was aunt Kan, she is the heart of the family.
Her passing leaves a hole in our hearts that can never truly be filled. But her light, her laughter, her love, and her fighting spirit will live on in all of us. She is, and always will be, where home is.
A viewing will be held on November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Memorial, followed by services at 2:00, at the same location. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Kan’s beautiful life and the joy she brought to everyone she met.
