

She was born April 13, 1927 in Hou, Denmark to Anders Jacobsen and Anna Elise Marie Jacobsen. She attended Granite High School, The University of Utah and BYU. She married Eldon Robert Nielsen on July 2, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Karen completed 27 years of formal education culminating with conferral of a Doctorate in secondary education and curriculum. Karen belonged to Phi Kappa Phi as well as many educational fraternities, International Reading Association, Salt Lake Reading Association etc. Karen served a Senior Mission to Guatemala. Karen was recognized as teacher of the year 1988 while in the employ of Weber State Collage. Karen was an accomplished seamstress, tailor, cook, and mentor. Karen loved to travel and was an avid reader. Karen published a book and published many professional articles as well as guides for 33 schools in reading.
Karen is survived by her husband Eldon Robert Nielsen, her children Robert A. Nielsen (Sheila), West Jordan, UT., Alan Reid Nielsen (Tamara), Manti, UT., Anders B. Nielsen, (Kristine), Riverton UT., David Nielsen (Becky), South Jordan, UT., Marylea Lockard (Rick), Rio Rancho, NM., her siblings Wilford O. Jacobsen, Parley P. Jacobsen and Anne Vivian Stong, 21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Stewart Lee Nielsen and Daniel Nielsen.
Funeral services will be held at the Bennion 2nd Ward, 6100 South Kamas Drive, August 29, 2015 at Noon. Friends and family may call from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Interment at the Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West, 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
