Karen Jeanne Gaarsoe Turner

Karen Jeanne Gaarsoe Turner was born December 15, 1945 to Phyllis Newman Gaarsoe and Bernhard Gaarsoe in Salt Lake City, Utah. Married Fred Turner, later divorced. The four-time cancer survivor lost her valiant battle against A.L.S. on March 24, 2010.

Mom attended schools in Round Lake, Illinois and Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from U. of U. College of Nursing in 1969. Later received her M.S.N. and M.B.A. Mom loved being a Nurse. She was active in Nursing Organizations, P.T.A., Girl Scouts and held many callings in Primary, Sunday School, Young Women’s and Relief Society. Her roles as Mom and Grandma brought her “her greatest joy”.

Mom feels her greatest gifts to the world are her children: Jenny Marie (Jeff) Brotherson, Amanda Jeanne (Darren) Richards, Tari Leanne Turner and Ricky Preston Turner. The stars in her eyes are her grandchildren: Cody, Braydon, Alex, Dallas, Nathan and Bailee. Also survived by her beloved mom, Phyllis; brothers, Berny and Greg; little sister, Kris and nieces and nephew. Preceded in death by: granddaughter, Sydney Richards and father, Bernhard. A very special thank you to the wonderful staff at I.M.C., I.H.C. Hospice and Home Health, and Dr. Nancy McLaughlin for their loving care of Mom over the past few weeks. Funeral Services for Karen will be held Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville 38th Ward, 4310 South 3200 West. The family will receive friends at a viewing Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the Ward. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah.
