Kathy was born in Maywood, California, on October 5, 1951, to Shirley Lois Hamric and James Ekstrand. She was a woman of great faith and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a quiet warrior who defeated many of her challenges. One of her biggest battles was when she went over a hundred-foot cliff when she was 18 years old and told she would never walk again and never be able to have any children. Through her faith, many months of medical care and physical therapy, she walked. And a few years later she had her first of eight children. When she became a single mother, she had to learn to provide for her family and was given an opportunity to gain an education. She took that opportunity and received her Associate’s Degree in Accounting and Computing. Later in life, she earned her Real Estate License. One of her most rewarding jobs was a Real Estate Agent Coach, where she was able to work from home and coach Realtors how to use specific software programs. She enjoyed learning and teaching others about new technology. She is a proud co-Author of, “Celebrating The First 100 Years LDS Hospital 1905 - 2005.” Her most cherished moments were helping and spending time with family and friends. Though life continued to throw personal and medical challenges her way, she quietly endured and persevered through each one. She always looked for the best in people and loved them in spite of their circumstances. She taught people how to love more, be more tolerant, think of others first, and give more than you receive. And though death has won this round, she has entered a long-awaited eternal rest.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Gomm, Daniel Gomm, Orrin Gomm, Bradley Torres-Gomm, Deborah Bernard, Steven Gomm, David Amador, Cassie Potter, and their spouses; and her 32 grandchildren and their spouses; and 5 great grandchildren; and her sister Cindy Newey and her brothers Paul Ekstrand and Tim Ekstrand.
