Marion Jeanne Winder Wynn

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Marion Jeanne Winder Wynn, truly one of Earth’s angels. She passed away quietly at home on May 24, 2025, at the age of 97. In her last year, she spent much of her time in bed, reading, writing notes, and visiting with family members and friends. Remarkably, she stayed her cheerful, faithful, interested self to the end, laughing as she talked and reminisced with dear ones.

Marion was born in Granger, Utah, on December 24, 1927, a Christmas gift to her happy parents, Edwin K. and Alma Cannon Winder. She loved her association with the great families of Granger and with her classmates at Monroe Elementary and Granite High School. She continued her education at the University of Utah where she earned a BS in 1949. She enjoyed her time at the U and made lifelong friends with her Chi Omega sorority sisters. It was also at the U that she met her husband, Willis D. Wynn. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 29, 1951, and had a wonderful life together until his passing in 2017.

Marion loved people. Her greatest joy was her husband of 67 years, her 5 children and spouses, 21 grandchildren, and 55 great-grandchildren. Each one felt known and loved by her. Words are inadequate to describe her extraordinary ability to engage with people. She remembered details so each family member and friend felt that she was truly aware of and interested in them. She wanted to spend time with those she loved, so she was always looking for ways to bring people together in a gathering of some sort—a lunch date, a pool party, or a family trip.

The faith that flowed through her rich heritage blessed countless lives, especially those of her family. She was instinctively optimistic, and her sincere response to any difficulty was, “It will all work out,” and it did! She was a tireless church worker, serving with diligence and joy with her beloved associates of Jordan North 2nd Ward. She was a quietly committed disciple of Jesus Christ who spent her life “trying to be like Jesus.” She loved her many years serving in the Jordan River Temple where she made friends who shared her interests in quilting, crafting, and gingerbread house making.

Her life wasn’t easy, although you would never know that from talking to her. She was only 38 when her dear mother passed away, and as a child, she lost a baby sister. An older sister passed away before Marion was born, and another sister, Kathy, died suddenly at age 54. Marion lived long enough to see the deaths of all of her siblings and most of her cousins and dear friends whom she greatly missed. Thanks to hospice caregivers, friends, and family members who have been so kind and helpful as her health began to fail.

She is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: Kristine (Kent) Matthews, Barbara (Mike) Dunn, Tom (Janalee), Dave (Patti), and Steve (Bobbi), 21 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. She is also survived by Coralee Robinson, a sweet sister-in-law; a beloved cousin, Dorothy Cannon Webb; and cherished nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Willis Wynn; a precious granddaughter, Melanie Dunn Lillian; parents and siblings, Ed and Alma Winder, Ned (Gwen) Winder, Rich (Barbara) Winder, David (Pam) Winder, and Kathy (Blake) Robinson; plus, her sisters Barbara and Helen who passed away in childhood and infancy.

Funeral services will be held at the Jordan North 2nd LDS ward building, 4270 Falcon Street, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 3. A viewing will be held at the Valley View Funeral Home on Monday, June 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and at the church prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will be at the Valley View Memorial Park.

To honor her memory, plant a garden, renew a friendship, forgive a grievance, write a cheery note, say a kind word, or decorate a gingerbread house. That’s how Marion lived her life, and that’s what she would want from us today.
