Patricia was born on January 23, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Patricia was the youngest of four children born to Frank and Harriet Nelson. While she spent her early years in Sugarhouse, her family also lived for a time in Tucson, Arizona. It was there, near the Surprise Mountains, that she developed a lifelong sense of adventure while exploring the landscape with her father.
After returning to Utah, Patricia attended South High School, where she cultivated a profound love for literature, particularly the works of William Shakespeare and Arthur Conan Doyle. Following her graduation, she embraced the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, an experience she cherished throughout her life.
In 1964, a blind date led her to meet Lyle Reece. The couple married on September 11, 1964. Due to Lyle’s career in the Air Force, they lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Fort Riley, Kansas. When Lyle was deployed to Vietnam, Patricia returned to her roots in Salt Lake City.
Patricia’s professional life included time with General Electric and Farmers Insurance, and she later served for ten years as an office manager for the Utah Department of Transportation. Above her professional accomplishments, she took the greatest pride in her family. She was a dedicated mother to her two sons, and while they were growing up, she actively volunteered with the PTA and the Stansbury Elementary library, sharing her passion for books with countless children.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Patricia was deeply involved in the Relief Society. She was known for her generosity and talent, frequently hand-making quilts and cloth dolls for those in need. After retiring, she found immense joy in her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She made it a point to pass on her love for the arts by regularly taking her grandchildren to the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City.
Patricia will be remembered for her kindness, her adventurous spirit, and the many lives she touched for the better. She is survived by her two sons, two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A brief viewing and Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 8, 2026 at 11 AM at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park Chapel, 17111 S. 1700 W., Bluffdale. Graveside services will follow immediately after.
The Family would like to thank the dedicated Nurses of Rocky Mountain Hospice and the Staff at Hunter Hollows Care facility who helped care for Patricia in her final days.
