Ulrike Shingler

Ulla was born July 17, 1942, in Helmshedt Germany. She Married Arthur Paul Shingler In June of 1964.

Arts Family and friends called him Sonny. Sonny met Ulla, a beautiful German woman, in Helmshedt while working as a spy for the National Security Agency. At the time Ulla was engaged to a German Pilot. It was love at first sight! He told her with confidence and clear intention that she would be marrying him! And, marry him she did! On November 3, 1965, Ulla gave birth to Kurt Steven Shingler, their only child. A year later the family moved to the United States.

Ulla is preceded in death by her beloved husband on May 10, 2002. She is survived by Kurt Steven Shingler and wife Vicki, granddaughter Amanda Mae Skalabrin and husband Anthony, great grandchildren Luka and Zara, and granddaughter Dallas Hope Shingler and partner Russell Simon. Also, her sister in Germany Editha Gawellek husband Jurgen, nieces Anja and Silke husband Hendrik.

Ulla was always kind and grateful. In fact she had “Kindness and Gratitude” down to an art form. She was witty and had a fun sense of humor. She loved her family and friends deeply.

Vicki and I had the opportunity to have my Mom live with us for the last weeks of her time here on Earth. We had a lovely Christmas and celebrated the New Year. It was priceless and precious time that we will always be grateful for.

It is with tear-filled eyes and a heavy heart. This world has lost a wonderful, beautiful, kind and gentle spirit. My Mom, Ulrike Shingler, has left this Earth walk to begin a new adventure in a new land. I will miss her deeply. As I sit here and type this, the city of Midway is setting off fireworks. I would like to say it is a celebration for her new life. I know she is in my Dads arms and she is feeling love and peace. I am grateful.

Ulla wanted a small graveside service with family and close friends. We are honoring her wishes. Service will be at noon on January 16th at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City Utah.
