Verla Delores Davies Nelson “Dee” Our beloved mother, grandmother and GG, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on August 21, 2021. Dee was born June 8,1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Chief Samuel Barber Davies of the South Lake Fire Department and Verla Minnie Jones. She attended Granite High school and was Queen of South Salt Lake 1944. She married Owen D. Nelson on May 17, 1947, in Ely, Nevada. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children.
She made many friends working at Lynn Wilsons where she became a master burrito roller before retiring. She had a way of telling you “Your're # 1” and making you feel like you were her favorite. She enjoyed going to Wendover with her family where she always won big! She also bowled with several of her grandchildren and sister Peachie. Her house was always open if you needed a cup of coffee. She had a soft spot for the fire department, and anything related to firemen. She appreciated her neighbors checking in on her and enjoyed the visits they had.
Delores is survived by daughters, Sharron (Vance) Smith and Karron Defa (Tom) Craig; sons, Sam Owen (Barbara) Nelson and John Kip (Laurie) Nelson. 15 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren. Sister Sherla Bobbie (Max) Butcher and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her Husband Owen D. Nelson, parents Samuel and Verla Davies, sisters Marion Wilson and Marlene Gardiner, son in law Jeff Defa and great grandson Rex Taylor Olsen and especially her sweet dog Nada.
