

William Nieves, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died peacefully on May 25, 2014 in Taylorsville, UT. Bill was born on Dec. 2, 1922 in New York City, New York to Jesus Nieves and Mercedes Del Valle. Bill married Josefa Lorenzo on Christmas Day 1948. Bill and Josie were sealed in the Provo, UT temple June 9, 1973 along with their three children Cliff, Dee, and Alex. Josie preceded Bill in death in 1996. Bill is the revered grandfather to sixteen grandchildren all of whom love, respect, and cherish his memory. He is the great-grandfather to twenty-eight great grandchildren.
Bill served in the army during World War II. He was a seaman in the U.S. Merchant Marine and was a tugboat captain on the Panama Canal for twenty-five years. He and Josie retired to UT in 1980 to be near their children who had settled there. His children are grateful for his presence for the past thirty-four years, for the things he taught them throughout their lives, for the love he unfailingly showed them, and for the great legacy of love, faith, and integrity he has left them.
Funeral services will be held May 30, 2014 at the Mountain Shadows Stake Center at 8199 S. 3200 W., West Jordan, UT at 10:00 a.m. A viewing will be held for friends and family wishing to pay their respects on May 29, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home at 4335 W. 4100 S., West Valley City and prior the funeral services at 9:00 a.m. at the Stake Center.
