Alberta Mildred (Olson) Markey was born in Carthage, MO on January 20, 1912, the last of the four children of Ole and Mildred Olson. Her husband of 66 years, Ralph, died in 2001. They had one child that died in infancy. She is survived by four nieces and two nephews.
She was married in 1935 and they lived in Carthage for about a year before moving to Long Beach, CA. Her husband served in three churches during his over 35 years of pastoral ministry. They founded and developed the First Assembly of God Church and Christian School of Garden Grove. After her marriage, she never worked outside the home but was very involved in supporting her husband in the work of the church. She also played the piano and organ in their services.
She was always kind and gentle and almost never got angry. She always took good care of herself and looked attractive.
For the last 5-6 years of her life, she suffered from dementia, which caused frequent confusion. Because of life-long wise business decisions, however, she was able to remain in her home with a 24-hour caregiver during her last three years. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer in December, 2009, but did not have surgery because of her age and the dementia.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 11:00 am at Orange County First Assembly of God Church with a graveside at 2:30 pm at Westminster Memorial Park.
