ALTA CLARA CAMPBELL
January 27, 1920 ~ January 22, 2016
Alta Clara Campbell was born January 27, 1920 in Pennsylvania, and passed to the Lord in the company of family on January 22, 2016, 5 days prior to her 96th birthday, in Fountain Valley, California.
Alta was a dedicated child of God; devoted wife; loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother; and loyal friend. She was cherished by all fortunate enough to have known her, and the Heavens glow even brighter now that Alta, her son David, and husband Jay have been reunited for eternity. Until our day comes to join them, we will hold her in our hearts and thoughts.
A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016, 2:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church Westminster, 7702 Westminster Blvd., Westminster, CA 92683 Refreshments follow in the Boyd Fellowship Hall. Private Burial Services will be conducted at a later date.
Alta grew up with siblings Elmer, Margaret and Ralph. She was baptized on March 25, 1934, signaling a relationship with God that grew throughout her life, and now glows eternally bright.
Alta married Jay Martin Campbell in Butler, PA on November 10, 1943, and they remained joined as one for over 67 years, until his passing on November 7, 2010, at the age of 94. During World War II, Alta proudly served as Chief Yeoman in the U.S. National Guard, while Jay was a chaplain in the Navy, serving aboard the U.S. aircraft carrier, coincidentally commissioned to include her name, "Alta" Mohawk.
Jay's call to the ministry coupled with Alta's steadfast faith paved the way for their lifelong journey with God. This began at their first church in Bergholz, Ohio in 1946, where their eldest child, David was born. Two years later they were called to move across country to Bethany United Presbyterian Church in Burbank, CA. As true pioneers, they conducted worship services from home, while the church was being built. Alta and Jay were blessed with three more children, Mark, Debbie, and Mary during their 15 years in Burbank. The Lord called again, so on September 15, 1963, Alta and family moved to Westminster, CA where they continued their Godly mission at the First Presbyterian Church Westminster. Here their family grew to adulthood and prospered to multiply.
Upon Jay's retirement from active ministry at the age of 65, Alta and he moved to Crestline, California, before settling a few years later in Huntington Beach, California.
In addition to God's calling, Alta worked in the Burbank school system, May Company, and Bullock's Department Stores. She enjoyed the many blessings of family; supporting her children in countless activities; developing strong community relationships; cooking and baking; giving (and tasting) See's candies; playing games; reading the Bible; sipping coffee; watching her favorite TV shows; participating in family get-togethers; loving her grand-children and great-grandchildren; celebrating the Holidays; and consistently being the Wind Beneath Our Family's Wings.
Alta is survived by her three children, Mark, Debbie, Mary; six grandchildren, Randy, Kimberly, Rich, Kerry, Kent, Krista; ten great-grandchildren, Cade, Bradley, Nathan, Paige, Kyle, Reid, Kylie, Jayson, Karissa, Brooke; and extended family.
