It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Pasepa Lavulo Tukia, a cherished grandmother, wife, mother, sister, aunty, and friend, who passed away on November 6, 2024, in California. Barbara was born on August 10, 1953, in Kolomotu’a, Tonga, to Malakai and Tupou Lavulo. She was 71 years old.
Barbara attended Tonga High School and later embarked on a successful career as a business analyst. However, it was her kindness, compassion, and dedication to others that truly defined her. As a devoted wife to her husband, John Atunaisa Tukia, and a loving mother to their four children, Barbara’s greatest joy was in caring for her family and uplifting those around her.
Barbara is remembered for her radiant smile that could light up any room, and for her infectious laughter that brought joy to all who knew her. She loved to dance, watch her favorite TV shows such as The Price is Right, Jeopardy!, and Wheel of Fortune, and, most of all, spend time with her family, especially her husband. Her empathetic nature and her ability to lead with love and grace made her a pillar of strength and inspiration to all who knew her.
Four words that best describe Barbara would be beautiful, courageous, a leader, and empathetic. She led by example, always putting others first and showing immense care and generosity to all. Her spirit of kindness and selflessness will never be forgotten.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Malakai Lavulo, and her mother, Tupou Lavulo. She is survived by her loving husband, John A. Tukia; her daughter, Sepiuta Holakeituai; and her sons, Inoke Tukia, John Tukia Jr., and Malakai Tukia. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Westminster Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel, where services will conclude.
Barbara’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her beautiful smile, joyful laughter, and compassionate heart will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
