On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, Ben R. Richey, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away at age seventy-four. An avid hands-on learner, he excelled in anything involving mechanics, woodworking, electronics, and modern technology. Troubleshooting was one of his specialties, in addition to playing the trumpet and singing bass in the church choir and family singing groups.
He met the love of his life, Linda Glenn, when they were both sixteen years of age at Glad Tidings Christian Fellowship. They were married in June 1966 and celebrated their fifty-third wedding anniversary prior to Linda’s passing in February 2020. He is survived by their three daughters, Julie, Janelle and Janeane.
Ben’s work career included leadership roles at Lewis Foods, General Can Co., and at Anderson and Howard Electric, where he spent nearly thirty years as a Project Manager/Estimator in the Service Department. He retired in 2013 in order to be a full time caregiver for Linda, who had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. His relationship with God deepened over time as he grew to rely more and more upon the love and grace that only Jesus can give. Ben selflessly loved his wife, children and three grandchildren. That love also extended to his widowed sister’s family, as he stepped into the role as adopted father and grandfather.
He was an avid boater and owned a 23’ cuddy cabin by SeaRay christened “Ben’s Dream”. He and his family enjoyed many boating excursions to Lake Powell, AZ and Catalina Island’s West End. In his own words, he was a “glass half-full kind of guy” and he lived his life in positivity that made a lasting impression upon everyone he met, whether it was a checker at the grocery store, a server at a restaurant, or a nail salon stylist giving him a delightful mani/pedi.
