

Bernice Elizabeth Hurst was born December 23, 1919, in Los Angeles, California, to Jesse C. and Hazel B. Laird, died February 14, 2011. Bernice was the oldest of three daughters. She graduated from Manual Arts High School, Los Angeles, in 1937 and married George F. Hurst March 22, 1939. They had a wonderful life of 56 years together. During her lifetime she enjoyed many philanthropic activities, music, sewing, her job as a bookkeeper for Pendleton Woolen Mills in their Frontierland shop in Disneyland, and in later years, volunteering as a teacher's aide in her youngest daughter's classroom, reading to the class, helping with class parties and getting the classroom ready for parent's night. She was recognized by the school as an Outstanding Teacher's Aide and person. Bernice is survived by her three daughters, Lynn Burchett of Idaho, Georgene Blair and Claudia Parker of California; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Heath of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1995, her sister Winifred, in 1996 and two grandsons, David Burchett in 1980 and Robert Burchett in 1997. There will be a memorial gathering of family and friends at the home on March 5, 2011 at noon.
