Bert Jeremiah Susanka

Bert Jeremiah Susanka was born on January 29, 1962 as the seventh child of Albert & Marjorie Susanka, members of St. Bonaventure Church from the very first mass offered by Monsignor Duffy when we used the warehouse on Murdy Circle before the church was built.

Bert attended St. Bonaventure school grades 1-8 and then Mater Dei High School. He graduated with a bachelor's of arts degree from California State University Fullerton in speech communications.

Bert has been married for 35 years to Susan Susanka and they have four sons; Paul, Eric, Ryan and Jacob. Bert had two careers, one as a medical office administrator and the second as a musician, singer, guitarist and prolific songwriter. His music included many genres but the constant motif that has permeated his music was his love for God and his desire to share his faith with those who admired his music. His career lasted almost forty years and he made countless friends and touched innumerable lives.

Bert's faith was readily embedded from our parents and he was especially devoted to our Lord in the blessed sacrament (he has a song called Real Presence), our lady in the holy rosary and dedicated his home to the sacred heart of Jesus.

He is survived by his siblings; Margie (Tom), Mary (Robert), Alice (Ron), Mark (Sharon), Matthew (Shelly) and Bridget. His mother-in-law Andrea and his sister-in-law Becky (Andy) and Matthew (Rania) as well as beloved nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Especially fond of his collaborators in his music world, his childhood friends from catholic school and a profound love of the people who appreciated his music.

A funeral mass for Bert will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 16400 Springdale St, Huntington Beach, CA 92649. Interment will immediately follow at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA 92683.
