Catalina Velarde passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at the age of 83, in California. Born on July 5, 1942, in Mexico, Catalina lived a full and meaningful life built on love, friends, and family.
She was married to the love of her life, Baudelio Velarde, for 62 beautiful years. They met through his sister Rosa, who just so happened to be Catalina’s best friend.
Together, Baudelio and Catalina built a strong and loving family and a life rich in memories.
Catalina worked in many different types of jobs, but working for the government in Mexico at a young age was one of her favorites. Her hardest job was being a mother and homemaker to her family. She was a constant guide, a source of comfort, humor, and unconditional love.
She was a devoted mother to four children: Alberto (Beto), Lorena, Ricky (predeceased), and Rosie. She also leaves behind her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchild. Her strength and unwavering spirit will continue to live on through them.
Catalina’s kindness extended beyond her family, always lending an ear to friends and neighbors. She made it her mission to raise independent daughters. Also, teaching her children that they could always stand on their own. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
She was known for her delicious cooking and never leaving her house on an empty stomach. She will always be remembered for her large sunglasses. The weather or the place did not matter. Those glasses were her staple.
Catalina also loved to dance and loved the companionship of her friends.
Catalina is preceded in death by her beloved son Ricky Velarde and beloved husband Baudelio Velarde. She is survived by her children Al Velarde, Lorena Velarde, and Rosie Velarde; her son-in-law Gerardo Lopez; her grandchildren Brianna Acuesta (and her husband Eric Dominguez), Christian Acuesta, and Matthew Velarde; and her great-granddaughter Elise Dominguez.
She is also remembered with love by her honorary children: Jenny Rebaldo, Kelly Rebaldo, Brian Robitaille, and Anjelique Granados, as well as honorary grandchildren Alissa Quintero, Ava Acuesta, and Ben Quintero.
“Mothers hold their children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever.”
