

Charles (Charlie) Roland Johnson was born to Page Johnson and Wilhelmina Marshall in Los Angeles, California on August 12, 1942. Charles had two siblings: Marguerite and Manual Lee Worthington. Charles grew up in Watts and attended Seventh Day Fremont High School where he graduated in 1960.
Upon graduating high school, Charles enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a Weapons Mechanic and an Armorer. While in Nevada, he met and married Lee Ealy. He served in the Air Force for four years and was honorably discharged in 1966. He, his wife and stepdaughter, Brenda, moved to Los Angeles, California and settled in Gardena in 1968. In 1970, Charles and Lee had one daughter, Tasha. They divorced in 1977.
Later, Charles met and fell in love with Cynthia Jones while living in Hawthorne, California. They enjoyed going dancing, going to the movies, going out for dinner and just being together. Charles and Cynthia were married on October 11, 1980. They lived in Los Alamitos, California before moving to Mission Viejo in 1983.
Charles received Jesus as his Lord and Savior at Ever Increasing Faith Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Frederick K.C. Price in 1979. Charles was a longtime member of several churches over the years. In 2019, he became a member of Second Baptist Church in Santa Ana, under the leadership of Pastor Ivan Pitts. He regularly attended worship service and participated in Bible study classes.
In 1966, Charles began his career with Southern California Edison. He and his wife moved to Mission Viejo and Charles worked for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, in San Clemente. Charles held many positions. His final position was an Electrical Test Supervisor. Retiring in 2006, after a 40-year career, Charles was honored by his colleagues. Charles had a very successful and rewarding career at SCE to which he was very proud.
Charles and Cynthia’s family grew, and they had three sons, Christopher (1985), Curtis (1986), and Cameron (1988). Charles contributed in many ways in his son’s Boy Scout activities. He was so proud to see his sons obtain Eagle Scout status. He also enjoyed camping, doing science projects, and watching his sons play sports, especially baseball.
Charles loved to watch his favorite sports teams (Lakers and Dodgers). He would attend Dodger games often and as a true fan, he would be in the stands watching the game while also listening to Vince Scully call the game on the radio in his earpiece. He also enjoyed bowling and being in a senior’s bowling league for several years. He collected model trains and airplanes and he especially enjoyed listening to great science fiction audiobooks. Charles was a master at electronics and computers. He wired and filled his house with state-of-the-art technology and taught all his children how to fix and build their own computers from scratch.
Charles and Cynthia loved to travel. Through the years, they traveled to Hawaii, Europe, Australia, Mexico, the Caribbean, Fiji, Bora Bora, Tahiti, Moorea. Charles especially loved cruising and went on more than ten cruises all over the world.
Charles was a great husband and father, but he was also a devoted grandfather -
he was affectionately called "Grandpa". He would make sure each grandchild had a special day on their birthdays and would go out of his way to make them happy.
This included countless trips to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knott’s Berry Farm, Mission Viejo Lake, or wherever they wanted to go.
On November 9, 2021, at 5:20 pm, Charles left his earthly vessel and put on an incorruptible garment and joined many saints in the heavenly place prepared for him (John 14:3); “being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God” (Acts 7:55).
Charles was preceded in death by his oldest son, Christopher Johnson, father Page Johnson, mother Wilhelmina Marshall, aunt Margie McReynolds, brother Manuel Lee Worthington, sister Marguerite Worthington, mother-in-law Kathryn Jones, father-in-law Roy Jones, and sister-in-law Lelani Jones.
He leaves to mourn a loving family and is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cynthia Johnson, his children Tasha Higgins (son-in-law Les Sr.), Curtis Johnson (daughter-in-law Rebekah), Cameron Johnson, his stepdaughter Brenda Banks, mother-in-law Patricia Jones, brother-in-law Andrew Jones (sister-in-law Tracye), nephew Aaron Jones, his grandchildren Jeremiah, Ta'Lor, Katriel, Les Jr., Victoria, Brian, Natalie and Denise, and a host of cousins and friends
