David Hawley

David Hawley, aged 69, residing in Huntington Beach, CA passed away peacefully on August 26, 2022 at a medical facility in Long Beach, CA following a brief period of illness after a surgery earlier in the month.

Dave, born on October 13, 1952, grew up near Bristol, England. He immigrated to the United States in 1966 where he met his future wife, Phyllis, at Marina High School in Huntington Beach. In 1974, he married Phyllis, and went on to have 3 beautiful children. He had a 36-year career as an engineer, spending many of those years at Oerlikon Metco where he retired in 2019. After establishing his early career and family in California, he moved to Long Island in 1995. He spent several years living with his family in Kings Park, NY, until moving back to Huntington Beach with his wife after retirement. His colleagues remember him as a brilliant engineer and compassionate manager who encouraged others to pursue their passions.

Dave had a creative spirit that applied to his work and his pastimes. He was passionate about music and played guitar in several bands based in Honolulu, Hawaii and southern California.

Dave is survived by his wife Phyllis Hawley, his children Wendy Hawley Carande, Joan Hawley McClain, and John Hawley, his grandchildren Maia, Hazel, Joseph, Gabrielle, and Brixton, and his father Arthur Hawley.

A memorial service for Dave will be held at the Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary Main Chapel on Sunday September 4 at 12 p.m. PDT. A private reception will be held after the service.
