Doris recounted many fond memories growing up near Chicago with her brother Russ where they spent their summers at the beaches along Lake Michigan and playing hide and seek in the woods. Winters were spent building sled runs, riding toboggans and ice skating on ponds and rivers.
In 1948, Doris moved out to California and married her brother’s best friend and the love of her life, Tom Neeld one year later. Together, they began their journey as husband and wife, designing and building a home from the ground up in Huntington Beach. In 1955, they settled into their newly built house, which became the heart of countless cherished memories including many years of 4th of July parade celebrations and family Christmas gatherings. Doris and Tom shared more than three decades together until his passing in 1983.
In 1991, Doris was blessed to find love again when she married Stanley Chambers. They shared a joyful life together until his passing in 2013.
Doris was a devoted wife and mother, raising three children: Lorie, Ken , and Jim with patience, kindness, dedication and devotion.
A gifted and accomplished artist, Doris created more than 1,000 oil paintings during her lifetime in California. Her talents extended far beyond the canvas where she crafted intricate miniature houses, designed and hand painted holiday yard decorations, and expressed her creativity through sewing and embroidery. Her artistry brought joy and beauty not only to her family and friends, but also to all who were fortunate enough to experience her work.
She leaves behind her beloved children and their spouses Lorie (Neil) Henderson, Ken (Carla) Neeld, Jim (Karyl) Neeld, as well as her seven cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Jones, Stephanie Smith, Tom Neeld, Andrew Neeld, Chris Neeld, Heather Neeld and Tayler Neeld. Doris now joins her husbands Tom and Stan in eternal rest.
Her legacy of love, family and artistry will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
