Pete Perez
We are all here today to pay tribute to a wonderful person with many titles, Pete, Pedro, Guadalupe, Nino, honey (which we often heard Carmen call him), husband, father, father in law, grandpa, great grandpa, son, brother, godfather, cousin, uncle, compadre, neighbor, brother knight and friend… 
 “Pete Perez” touched each of our lives in one form or another and in a very special way. I can tell you that I am proud to say that Henry and I are very proud to call Pete spiritual guide, mentor, father figure in our life's, personal shopper, and financial tracker. He was like a Niño and grandfather to our children our friend, relative
We are here today to share with you some of our fondest memories of our life with Pete and the Perez family. I know all of you have to go home tonight so I'll share just a few…..
Henry and I joined St. Barbara Church in 1983 shortly after we purchased our 1st home.  We would take our girls to school daily at St Barbara's and attend Sunday masses, usually 9:30 am which was the mass that Pete and Carmen regularly attended. 
After you attend masses on a regular basis you start to notice things like; those who come to the same mass every week, those who serve the church regularly, those who greet and collect the offertory and those who take the time to seek you out and make you feel as part of the church. That's where Pete comes into play with the Garcia family. We wanted to touch base on some of the roles we talked about.
Spiritual Advisor and brother knight: It was in 1995 that after several attempts, Pete finally got Henry to stop and listen to his spiel about the Knights of Columbus organization and how and why he should join this wonderful organization.  As usual, Henry used his famous line: “I'll think about it”. But little did he know that Pete was a persistent man, who never gave up on one because by the end of the year he finally got Henry to go and receive his 1st degree in Council 7309, go up the ranks, become Grand Knight and join the 4th degree. This is how he became our spiritual advisor, as Henry began to change, he would now go to church with a different attitude and Pete got him to start passing the basket to collect those funds he once complained about giving as he was beginning to see through Pete's encouragement that it was more than just church it was about giving and a love for God.  
Mentor: Pete and Carmen began to mentor us through their faith and love for their own family. Once you saw through all the stuff God put in front of us, we began to see what Pete and Carmen had been saying when they would tell us thinks like “ put it in God's hand” “Just pray”. Believe me; I think Pete and Carmen have seen us through many challenges in our life.  I believe that it was their love for God and their own family was so strong that they helped us to see how through all life's difficulties and hurdles God will never fail you. 

Father figure: Henry and I both lost our dad's in the late 1990's and Pete was once again there to help us see through the pain and sorrow and stepped in as a father figure for both of us, especially when it came to life and house issues. It was always, Pete what do you think is wrong: with the kitchen sink, lawn mower, water heater, the car won't start, the car needs tires, where is the best place to buy them, this plant is not doing well, do you want to bar-b-que? He would also come by when we were doing the “do it yourself projects” and give his strong professional opinion, even when you did not want it. I do think that there were a few times when he would be surprised of what we had accomplished. He would always tell us how proud he was of us. Pete knew a lot about everything and everybody and was always ready to give you his opinion of how to do it or how to get it done. This leads us to:
Personal Shopper:  If you needed something, Pete knew how, where, who you should go to get the service done. You needed tires, call Nelson, you needed to have a slab poured, call Robbie, you needed a roof, call Manuel, you needed a painter, well he was indeed the right man for the job, you needed a tuxedo, go to Orange Circle, you needed a band, call Eddie, you needed a bus for a fund raiser, he knew them too.  Even if you didn't think you needed someone, he would find it for you. I remember one day he came over and went to our back yard. He said, Hendry, you need to get off your wallet and get a gardener. Henry's response was “Pete, I'll get to it” well as I said earlier, Pete was a persistent man and within an hour after he left, a gardener showed up to our door and said Pete sent me and not only did he tell the gardener we needed work done, he also told him we had a lot of money…..this is where our financial advisor came to play. Always finding ways for us to spend and invest our money….
Our children looked to him as a Nino and grandpa and loved when he drove up to our house because they knew that he was going to talk us into something or he would convince their dad of something, they would get a sure sale for one of their raffle tickets, as well as his support for all of  their many fund-raisers. They also looked forward to when he would just give them one of his hugs and have him say how are you doing mija!  
Henry and I sat down to think back of all the people in our lives that Pete and Carmen touched through Henry's decision to stop and hear Pete's spiel and we counted over 75 people, but I am sure there are many more that we forgot.  
We shared many laughs, tears, stories and hugs with this fine man and we will miss him very much. Pete, as you told us on many occasions, “We are proud of you” and we thank you God for putting you and the Perez family into our lives, know we will keep you in our hearts.

You were like a Dad to me and you were Grandpa to my kids and great Grandpa to my grandson Tooties (Marshall III) 40 years of memories. You will deeply missed and will forever be in our harts.

Carmen & Family our deepest sympathy on hearing the passing of Pete. It was nice seeing both of you at Knight's of Columbus dances and meeting him and how he made us feel like faimily and the joking with us girl's..... He surely will be missed by all of us, Lillian Guerrero, Margie Guerrero, Susan Basquez, Joanna Guerrero, Rosanna Ursua...

Carmen and family: Words cannot express the sorrow we all feel for each of you. Pete was a wonderful person and we will always hold his memories in our hearts. "We love Pete" Henry, Denise  and family

Carmen & Family,  We were so sorry to hear about Pete's passing. He was always so kind to us. It was always nice to visit with you at family parties & K of C events. We loved to watch you two dance together at the Latin dances. So smooth. May God's strength and Love see you through this difficult time.  We will keep you and your Family in our daily prayers. My precious Nino, may you rest in peace. You've given me so much wisdom and comedy at the same time. You will be missed but not forgotten.   I will always love you. Always in my heart.
