Guy David Cartwright was born on November 30, 1957, in Long Beach, California, to Bill and Imogene Cartwright. He was raised in Lakewood alongside his older brother Jim in a lively household, regularly filled with family and friends. From a young age, David had a passion for cars, music, sports, and hitting snooze on his alarm clock.
He attended California State University, Long Beach, where he studied English and Business. When he was running late for class, you could see his love for speed on display as he zoomed through traffic on his Honda motorcycle. That love for speed extended to any vehicle he could get behind the wheel of, but his ’66 Chevelle and ’06 Ford GT topped his list. When he wasn’t in a rush, you could find him on his Bianchi bicycle cruising down PCH, up Signal Hill, or along the Santa Ana River.
He had a long and successful career in the computer industry, where he built Targus into a powerhouse before founding and leading Mobile Edge alongside Steve Goodman. He was highly regarded and deeply respected by those around him. He prided himself on forming the kind of relationships built more on a handshake than a contract.
Early on in his career, he met his wife Darellyn. After ten years together, they were married at the Grand Wailea in Maui. They raised three children together: Summer, Christopher, and Kyle. While he was proud of his career and remarkable accomplishments, he was even more proud of the family he and his wife raised.
Whether you knew him as a son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, colleague, or friend, words like integrity, respect, generosity, loyalty, and thoughtfulness reflected the man he was. We will think of him often, be it a funny quote from Monty Python, a Bob Seger song, or an ice-cold Dr. Pepper. Have fun storming the castle, David.
David is survived by his mother, wife, brother, three children, three grandchildren, and numerous family and friends who will carry on his legacy.
