When I think of you, I remember the family reunions, all the food and family, the house, the busy work and landscaping, the one bathroom. I remember looking forward to trips to Garden Grove to see you and Uncle Ne. I remember you listening to music. I remember you and Uncle Mike always joking and laughing. I remember your smile, I remember the last time I visited with you and looking back toward you as I left to go home. I remember how happy you looked, I remember feeling like that would be last time we would be able to visit. I'm glad that you are no longer suffering. I am glad that we had the time together that we did. The strength that you showed throughout your life was, and always will be, an inspiration to me. I will always remember you Uncle Chu. Love you.

In life & in death Chu had always been my inspiration.  My time & experience in the Army was always filled with challenges & rewards but not without physical pain. As Chu laid in bed all those years in pain it motivated me to strive to be the best I can be.  
My wife, in all her years, had never met a person as caring & loving as Chu.  To this day her morning starts in sadness thinking about Chu & missing him.  
As for our son, Junior, being there at the funeral has ultimately changed his life.  He is more caring & considerate person now.  And like he told me, he attributes this change in his life to the positive impact that Chu had in his life.

Thank you for filling the role of "Grandpa" for all 3 of my boys. You were such an amazing role model to so many and your life teachings will continue to guide so many. You will always live on in our hearts.  Thank you for all the special memories you leave us with. May you rest in peace.

Although it's still hard to believe that you're gone, I'm glad you're no longer in pain. I miss spending time with you each weekend whether it was cooking, singing, shopping, or laying in your bed watching the news. I'm so grateful for all that you've done for me and for all that you've taught me. You have always been the inspiration behind my dreams of one day having a career where I can give back to others. To my oldest brother: It's still very, very difficult for me to accept that you are not here with us today. I miss you each and everyday and spend many quite moments alone thinking of the many things we did together over the years. You guided me, you inspired me, you taught me and allowed me to grow into the person I have become. I hope I made you proud and I wish we had more time together to laugh again over silly things, to sing our favorite songs over and over, to cook for others, and to do another home project so you can get new fun tools which makes you happy. We miss you so much. You were always a shoulder to lean on and the one to bring sunshine to a dull day with your jokes.  There isn't a day that goes by that we don't think of you and all that you have done for our family. Just the other day I was remembering the day you took me prom dress shopping. It was a day that still fills my heart with warmth.  Words can't explain how much you are missed Uncle Chu. We love you and   will meet again.

You are such an inspiration to all of us. You always were so warm and welcoming to me and my family. From the first time we were invited to a Finona Bar-b-Que it has never been the same. I looked so forward to anytime I would get to go to Uncle chu's house to see all the cousins, play pool and of course ride in your wheelchair :) The memories are never ending and I will always cherish them. I was so excited for my children to be able to meet Uncle Chu. My kids first "luau" was at your home. They still talk about the dancers juggling the fire. Just greatness all around. You are such a great man with a huge heart. Thank you for being such a special person in my life. I will always remember you with Love..  Until we see each other again rest peacefully ??

     A lighthouse is a beacon; a sure and certain light that guides us home through the darkest nights, the roughest seas, and the most dangerous weather. Even when there is no call for it to be lit, a lighthouse stands apart, visible for miles as a constant reminder of the need to stand firm, because there will always be more violent weather, thrashing waves, and pitch black nights. A lighthouse is a symbol of the brilliant fire that resides within us all. A warm, gentle light that carries with it fierce energy, determination, and strength of will to defend those precious beings guided by its benevolent glow, and to drive back the darkness which surrounds them.
     To me, Uncle Chu has always been a lighthouse. He has shown me such strength in his struggle through many long years of sickness and infirmity. Never giving up, never giving in. Knowing that each long night is inevitably followed by a new day, a new battle, and always rising to meet the challenge. Because the day also brings new hope, and a new opportunity to share this all too brief existence with the ones we love. He was always ready to share his love of life, his hospitality, and his kernels of wisdom with all who surrounded him. A light is indeed gone from this world, from our family...but its blazing fire, its beacon, lives on in all of us who have bathed in its glow, and felt its warmth. Though the light of his life has been extinguished, I find the strength to meet each day, and every trial, knowing a part of that light lives on in me.

I love you Uncle Chu. Thank you for EVERYTHING you have done for us. You've given us. You've given us EVERYTHING and more. You have definitely taught us about leadership, love, family and how service to many DOES indeed lead to GREATNESS. You're a remarkable man and will ALWAYS be loved by us and generations to come. I truly feel bad for those who didn't have the honor of knowing you. You're definitely a light in an empire of darkness. Things are just not the same without you.  I miss our talks and the fun that we had with me giving you a bad time. We had a lot of good times.  I know you are still around and that does make me feel better. We all miss you!

Uncle Chu, I think about you everyday; especially when I'm planting flowers,  sanding a table or doing projects around the house. Although I know you're with me constantly, I miss you tremendously. You truly were the absolute strongest man I've ever known. I miss sitting with you in the room talking, going for lunch and learning how to do various household tasks. I truly valued every moment spent with you and wish I could have so many more. I miss you and love every single day.

You left us peaceful memories. Your love is still our guide and although we can't see you, you are always at our side. It broke our hearts to lose you.  You did not go alone, but part of us went with you the day God called you home.

How do you say good-bye to someone who has been such a huge and an important part of your life for as long as you can remember?
My earliest memories of Uncle Chu go back to 1967 visiting him at the VA hospital in San Francisco right after he was injured.  I was only 5 but the memories are so vivid.  During my last visit with him we talked about his time in that hospital and surprisingly the things I remembered he confirmed as true.  As hurt as he was, he still smiled at me through the body cage that he endured days, weeks and months in.  I still can hear his voice, so calm and kind and reassuring….that he was okay and I could come close and touch him and kiss his cheek through that cage.
My sister and I spent every summer at the house in Garden Grove. There was always lots of work to be done but so much fun to be had.  Cooking in the kitchen with Nana…Uncle Chu overseeing even then….the kitchen Nazi as I later called him….much to my mom's chagrin.  Playing with our dozens of cousins, fishing and gardening with Tata.  Before we left to go back home (sorry mom but Jac and I cried BUCKETS every time we had to leave) Uncle Chu always took us school clothes shopping.  Our mall trips were a tradition, hilarious people watching and major pig-outs always topping off our trip. He made us feel completely spoiled.  
I was lucky enough to see him just a few weeks ago.  I thank God every day for that time with him.  Uncle Chu was having a string of good days while we visited.  He of course insisted on cooking several wonderful dishes for us (still the Kitchen Nazi insisting we wait until he returned from an errand before cutting the beef for the kelaguen, because you know we have never done that before!) and taking a mall trip before leaving.  Staying true to our tradition we shopped until Carmen and I almost dropped and we were completely gross at the food court….but I have to say Uncle Chu was the biggest eater that day…almost half of his Philly cheesesteak sandwich and most of the noodles Carmen and I got!
I have more than 50 years of memories and I could go on and on sharing them with you.  Mostly I want to publicly thank Uncle Chu for loving me, for always being there for me no matter what my need, for his friendship, wisdom, inspiration, for showing me what it really is to be tough, for being real and for making me feel valued, always, even as imperfect as I am.  I will miss him constantly and love him always.
I cannot say goodbye to him but will repeat what he has always said to me “SEE YOU LATER”

Uncle Chu... I don't know where to begin. I was tasked with articulating how much you mean on behalf of the family at your service, and yet now I'm at a loss for words. I think of you daily, and I still can't believe you're not here. You were the one I turned to in tough times, and you always had the right thing to say. Your advice was always themed with the importance of strength and hard work. I will carry that with me forever. Thanks for being my Tata, my other father, but mostly for being my mentor. I owe much of my success to you, and I hope I've made you proud.

What do you say about the person that has meant so much for our family? Uncle Chu, you taught all of us the true meaning of strength, perseverance, and love. You had a hand in raising so many of us. You taught us so much about life, sometimes without us even knowing. The day you left us our lives were changed forever. Your memory and legacy lives on in each of us. Now, it's up to us to continue to be the strong and supportive family that you helped to create. We miss you terribly everyday but in our hearts you live on. Thank you for all you have done for our family, for all you have done for each and every one of us individually, and for the light you have given during dark times. Most of all, thank you for your love, Uncle Chu.

Your light continues to shine. It's the beacon to constantly remind us to live our lives to the fullest just as you did.

While our hearts are broken with his passing, our brother Chu died with great dignity and great courage. Our lives have been enriched in the knowledge that his legacy continues.  He is still very much with us. What he has instilled is the love of family and friends. Uncle Ne & I cherish the memories we have of him. It comforts us to know that he is no longer suffering. Rest in peace, Chu. Until we all meet again. We love you.
