Ji Soo Yang

December 9, 1946 – April 3, 2026
Obituary of Ji Soo Yang
IN THE CARE OF

Westminster Memorial Park & Mortuary

Ji Soo Yang, born on December 9, 1946, in Pyongyang, Korea, passed away on April 3, 2026, in Irvine, California. She lived a life defined by love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Ji Soo earned her bachelor’s degree from Sangmyung University. She later built a life rooted in hard work and determination, becoming a small business owner. Over the years, she proudly owned a retail clothing and accessory store, as well as a donut shop, and also worked as a data entry specialist for UPS. Through every role, she demonstrated resilience, dedication, and an enduring commitment to providing for her family.

She met her beloved husband, Byung Joon Yang, through mutual friends, and together they built a strong and loving partnership. Side by side, they raised four children and created a home filled with warmth, care, and lasting memories.

Ji Soo was the heart of her family—a selfless, loving, and generous woman who served as its foundation and caregiver. She was known for her joyful laugh, beautiful smile, gentle spirit, and forgiving nature. Her strength carried her family through life’s challenges, and her kindness touched everyone who knew her.

She found her greatest happiness in spending time with her loved ones. She enjoyed early morning walks along the beach and pier, as well as quiet walks at the neighborhood park with her husband. She was a devoted fan of Korean dramas and singing shows, and she cheered enthusiastically for her favorite basketball team—“Go Lakers!”

Ji Soo had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. She loved traveling with her family, especially to Hawaii, savoring coffee and donuts as a true connoisseur, and enjoying coffee ice cream, rainbow rolls, and crab by the beach in Redondo. She also found joy in painting and drawing, cooking authentic Korean meals for her family, and even trying her luck on slot machines in Las Vegas.

She will be remembered as a woman who was selfless, strong, compassionate, and full of grace—a radiant presence whose love will continue to guide her family.

Ji Soo was preceded in death by her father, Ji Hoon Kang; her mother, In Duk Kim; her brother, Ji Bong Kang; and her brother-in-law, Erick Seyoung Kim.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Byung Joon Yang; her children: Lisa Michaelis and her husband Scott Michaelis; Rosa Chang and her husband Danny Chang; Connie Yang; and Eugene Yang. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Keila Morris, Alexa Michaelis, Mia Chang, Nicholas Chang, Nathaniel Yu, Leila Yu, and Bradley Yu; her sisters, Ji Yoon Kang, Ji Sun Kim, and Janet J. Park; and her brother, Tai Kyung Kang.
