Born on December 19, 1945, in the small town of Sinait, in the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines, Jose grew up with a strong sense of discipline, family, and faith. He attended Sinait National High School before pursuing higher education at Far Eastern University in Manila, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. He later studied at Northwestern College in Laoag City, working toward a degree in Education. It was there that fate introduced him to his future wife, Trinidad Caraang. The two met in July 1971, quickly fell in love, and were secretly wed in a civil ceremony that December. Their union was blessed again in the church in February 1972, beginning a marriage of over 53 years.
Jose and Trinidad built a family rooted in love, faith, and resilience. Together they raised two children, Richard (50) and Kathy (38), who will always remember their father’s unwavering dedication and sacrifice. For nearly 40 years, Jose worked as a machinist on the graveyard shift, a tireless provider who ensured his children received both undergraduate and graduate educations. Through long nights and countless overtime hours, Jose never complained—his work was a gift of love to his family.
Beyond his career, Jose found joy in life’s simple pleasures. A devoted sports fan, he passed on his love of games to his children, who grew up cheering alongside him. In his younger years in the Philippines, he enjoyed gambling with his older brother, Lito, always with a smile and a sense of camaraderie.
Those who knew Jose will remember him as a devoted husband, a hardworking father, a generous provider, and a kind soul. He never let his wife lose an argument, and his selflessness and quiet humor defined his relationships with his family. He gave wholeheartedly, not only to his wife and children but also to his grandchildren and extended family.
Jose is survived by his loving wife of more than five decades, Trinidad Caraang Abella; his two children, Richard Abella and Kathy Abella; and his cherished grandchildren, Abby (12) and Dylan (10). He is preceded in death by his parents, Pastor Abella and Caridad L. Abella.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in the same chapel, with interment to follow at Westminster Memorial Park.
Jose’s life was one of quiet strength, steadfast devotion, and immeasurable love. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched, and his legacy will forever remain in the hearts of his family.
