It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen "Kathy" Mitsuko Austin, beloved wife, mother, and friend, who left us on June 28, 2024, in Santa Ana, California, at the age of 71. Born on May 11, 1953, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kathy lived a life full of love, compassion, and creativity.
A proud graduate of Pacifica High School, Kathy's journey took a significant turn when she met her husband, Steven Michael Austin, Sr., on his first day at Hughes Aircraft Company, thanks to their boss, Henry Otalora. Their memorable introduction began with a simple handshake and the words, "Nice to meet you," setting the stage for a beautiful life together.
Kathy dedicated her professional life to Delphi Connection Systems, where she excelled as a quality control specialist in flexible printed circuit manufacturing. Her meticulous nature and strong work ethic were evident in everything she did.
Kathy was a devoted mother to her two children, Steven Michael Austin, Jr. and Julie Ann Austin. Her nurturing spirit extended to her two beloved cats, Demon and Eres, showcasing her deep love for animals.
An adventurous soul, Kathy traveled to seven countries and explored many states across America, cherishing every experience. She had a passion for the beach, enjoyed sewing, and was an avid media and movie collector. Kathy's creativity shone through her handcrafted blankets, made with love for family and friends.
Kathy will be remembered for her selflessness, always putting others' needs ahead of her own. She was a loving wife, dedicated mother, talented chef, and a true free spirit who brightened the lives of everyone around her.
She is survived by her husband, Steven Michael Austin, Sr., her son Steven Michael Austin, Jr., her daughter Julie Ann Austin, and her brother Brad Yamauchi. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Seiji Yamauchi and Betty Mitsuko Yamauchi (Nakamura).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Orange County Animal Shelter in Kathy's name, honoring her deep love for animals.
A graveside service will be held in Kathy's memory on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 9:00 AM at Westminster Memorial Park in the Garden of Remembrance. Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating her extraordinary life and the lasting impact she had on all of us.
Rest in peace, Kathy. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
