Marianne Miwako Uyeno was born on September 26, 1948. She was the first daughter of Yoshio (Jack) and Kazuko Uyeno. Marianne spent her early years in the city of Glendale in a multi-generational multiunit property which her family purchased priorto WWII. Marianne, her younger sister Joanne and cousins Patty and Janice grew up in each other's homes, sharing everything from snacks to scoldings.
In the mid -fifties, the family moved to Rosemead, Ca. Marianne graduated from Rosemead High School and then continued her education at Cal State LA where she met Douglas Mitchell, and the rest, you can say is history.
While obtaining her degree, she worked summers for LA Countywith Joanne, Janice and another cousin, Sayoko and waited for Doug to return from Vietnam where he served as a medic.
Marianne began her 33 year career with the Long Beach Unified School District in September 1971. When Doug returned from the military, he completed his degree and they married on April14, 1973.
Marianne and Doug began their family in 1976 as their son Derek was born. Five years later their second child Michelle became part of tight knit family. Marianne instilled the values of family, religion, education, hard work and sports to her children.Marianne created a caring and loving atmosphere where friends and family were always welcomed.
Marianne enjoyed reading, dancing, fishing and eating out, but by far, her greatest joy were her grandchildren.
Marianne would focus on a goal and tenaciously work to achieve it. This type of determination could often be seen through her 38 years of marriage and her education achievements.
After years of progressive health woes, she was forced to retire in 2005. Two years later Doug also retired to assist with Marianne's everyday medical needs so that she could enjoy the best life possible.
Marianne passed away on April 29, 2011 at 2:15 a.m. She was well loved and will be missed by all.
