Max Remy Crowder, a native of Santa Ana, CA, was born on Dec. 22, 1924, and resided in Orange County his entire life. He attended Santa Ana High School, and enlisted in the Marine Corp at the age of 19. Max fought in World War II in Saipan-Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in Nov. 1945 and returned to Santa Ana, where at a party he noticed a childhood friend who had blossomed while he was serving his country. He always said that he knew at that moment that was the woman he wanted. Max and Emma Crowder were married on May 19, 1946 and lived happily together for 57 years until Emma passed away.
Early in their marriage, Max joined the Anaheim Fire Dept. and graduated from Santa Ana Community College with an A.A. in Fire Science. He was quickly promoted to Captain and served the City of Anaheim for 30 years. In retirement, Max and Emma traveled the world.
Max had many loves: fishing, hunting, model trains, model cars, dancing, singing, and working on cars and doing construction and repairs around the house for family and friends. There just didn’t seem to be anything Max could not figure out how to fix or construct. He has been a faithful member of Anaheim Community Methodist Church since 1954. Of all his interests and loves, Max held family closest. Max is survived by his two sons, Max and Fred, 2 daughters-in-law, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
In later life, Max met a lovely lady, Flo Petralia, who became his dance partner and very special friend. Flo and Max enjoyed dancing and spending times with friends and family.
A celebration of Max’s life will be held at Anaheim Community Methodist Church, 1000 State College Blvd., Anaheim 92806, on Feb. 3, 2018 at 11:00. Memories of Max and condolences to the family may be left on Max’s online memorial guest book at obits.dignitymemorial.com.
Memorial donations may be made to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, or by phone: 877-647-VETS (8387).
The family would like to express their deep gratitude for all the prayers and support that have been extended to Max and his family.
