OBITUARIO

Patricia Ann Herzog

12 septiembre , 196023 julio , 2020

Cherished mother, wife, daughter and sister Patricia Ann Herzog passed away on July 23, 2020.

She passed away at the age of 59 at Kaiser Anaheim Medical Center due to complications from COVID-19. Patricia, aka Pat or Dede, was born on September 12th, 1960 at St Francis Hospital in Lynwood, CA to Ray and Irene Rubio. Although she was second born of five children, she was always thought of as the baby of the family due to her petite size. Her nickname Dede was given to her by her older brother Ray, who couldn’t pronounce “baby,” and the name stuck her entire life. She graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1978 and attended two years at Whittier College before marrying her first husband and giving birth to her two children, Jennifer and Ryan. She was the first in the family to go to college, first to get married, and first to have children. Pat worked for almost 20 years in aerospace as a technical writer for Northrop Grumman, and most recently worked as a senior operations analyst for the Auto Club of Southern California. She married her second husband Corey in 2001 and her family grew to include her two stepsons, Robert and Blake. Pat and Corey were happily married for the last 19 years and were planning on retiring together and moving to Nevada.

Aside from her family, Pat loved her dogs, camping, sports, live music, and being mischievous. As a child her family went camping several times a year traveling all over, and finally spending the majority of trips together camping at Carpinteria, CA, where the tradition continued with new generations of children and grandchildren. For the last several years Pat and her husband loved camping at McGee Greek and taking trips to the desert, where Pat couldn’t wait to go fishing, ride quads, and relax in nature with her close friends and her dogs. She loved hockey and was an avid fan of the Anaheim Ducks, going to several games with her husband. They took many trips to Primm, Nevada to go to casinos and see live music. Her siblings have fond memories of her playing little tricks on them, including claiming to her youngest sister Julie that she invented “Woodsy the Owl.” A mantra she lived by was John Lennon’s quote: “life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” Pat had so many plans in the making, so much life still to live, so much to look forward to, but she never once took a present moment for granted. She lived a life full of love, full of laughter, full of memories. She put everyone else’s needs before her own and doing so fulfilled her.

Pat was known for her kindness, her compassion, her silly sense of humor, and most of all her big infectious smile. Her warmth impacted so many people in ways that her family are still continuing to learn. She is preceded by her father Ray, and is survived by her mother Irene, husband Corey, children Jennifer, Ryan, Robert, and Blake, siblings Ray, Julie, Teri, and Sally, and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Her life was cut too short, but her spirit remains strong and continues to comfort the people she loved. We hear her voice in the sweet morning aria of birdsong. We see her smile in the divine brushstrokes of a brilliant sunset. We feel her big hug when a soft warm breeze gently brushes our skin. She will be missed for life, and with us for eternity.

There will be a small viewing for her family on Friday, August 7th at Westminster Memorial Park from 5-8pm, and the family plans to organize a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Her family has asked for donations to be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.

Oh Pat, what a ball of energy you are! I was so blessed to spend time with you at AAA. I loved it most when we could stop and eat lunch together in the Café or enjoy the Races at the racetrack in the Suite for AAA. Everywhere you went you always had a beautiful smile on your face and always so willing to lend a hand and help out. Everyone you came in contact with at work were touched by your sweet, kind smile and it made my day better for sure. I can't accept that COVID took you, it's not fair, it's not right. But what I do know is our God is a great God and He has you in his arms now and one day I will get to see you again and I will see that beautiful smile once more. So for now my dear friend, rest, run, laugh, play and know you will see your loved ones again one day. Rest in Peace Pat! Love you, Cheryl

Wow. Where do I even begin. How do you choose a memory out of the many that I have of Dede. She was like a sister to me. We grew up together. Went to the same schools. Were in many classes together. I spent weekend vacations, parties, dinners, concerts, family get togethers, weddings, sporting events and much more with her and the wonderful Rubio family. I love them all. So it's surreal and mind boggling to write about someone who was young and so full of life, happy, humble, funny and in the end, so extremely courageous. One funny memory I have of her is we were in class together. I don't remember what grade. And I said " hey Dede." She looked around at some of the other kids and then back at me and said in a whisper, "My name is Patricia". I said "huh?" She repeated herself and said "Don't call me Dede". I replied "Patricia"? I had no idea. Her family always called her Dede and since the age of 8, I always thought and called her Dede. So from that day on, I made sure to call her Patricia around other people, but to me she will always be Dede. Rest in peace my dear friend and may God bless you and help your beloved Corey, along with your entire family through your unthinkable and tragic loss.

I met Patricia & Corey about 10 years ago through a mutual friend & I quickly became good friends with Patricia. We spent some time going out to the desert with Corey & Pat, having fun biking & riding quads & then sitting around the fire in the evening just talking & enjoying the peace. It was always great. I remember when Pat & I spent a beautiful day at Glen Ivy Hot Springs Day Spa in Corona. Pat was great company & I loved being around her. She was the sweetest, kindest person & always had time for for a chat. I am so very sad to hear of her passing & I wish I could have seen her again. She will be missed terribly. God Bless you Patricia.

Pat was, indeed, a blessing to me when she and I worked near each other at Gateway One. She had such a positive outlook and was always willing to lend a helping hand with her beautiful smile. The times when she and I chatted, she talked about how much she adored and admired her husband and how much she llloved her kids. Though I never met her family, she introduced them all to me via pictures on her desk and, as she spoke each name, her face was beaming with her love for them. She and I shared our respective dreams of upcoming retirement. I recall telling my husband one day after Pat and I spoke that Pat had the gift of being a good listener. I am so thankful for her kindnesses and, though brief, her friendship.

To her husband and family, I extend my deepest sympathy. I am so sorry for your great loss. Your family will remain in my prayers often in the months to come.

So many fond memories of Patricia, who we called “DeDe”, made it difficult on how or where to begin. Her early childhood years come to mind as special and memorable. In the early 1970’s, Dede’s mom and dad, Ray & Irene, the 5 kids, and George and I and our 3 kids always planned a family vacation together. Many times my sister, Kathy, was able to join us. Because there was 13 of us, camping seemed the way to go. So, Ray bought a trailer, George bought a Mini-Motorhome. We’d pack the RV’s with plenty of food and everything but the kitchen sink, and take off early on a Sunday morning. We traveled and camped in many states..some of the most memorable was Yosemite & Yellowstone Parks, Lake Tahoe, Canada, Campland, and always one week in Carpinteria State Beach, where we spent many enjoyable and fun times. The kids would play in the sand, swim in the ocean, and relax in the evening roasting marshmallows while telling “silly” stories before going to bed. Those are the fond memories with Dede we’ll hold forever in our hearts. Dede, we’ll never forget your beautiful smile, your warm hugs, great personality, and love of family. Sending our prayers and love to husband, Corey, your children, Jennifer and Ryan, step-sons, Robert & Blake, new daughter-in-law, my sister, Irene, your siblings, and many family members. We’re going to miss you so much, but find comfort that you’re with your dad, Ray. Two of the brightest stars in the sky, shining like never before and watching over us. Rest In Peace God-child, niece, and cousin to our 3 sons. Dede, we love you forever! Uncle George, Aunt Mary & Cousins
