On Friday, October 12th 2012 at 11:25 pm Stephen Ray Baker went home to be with the Lord. For the past three years he has been battling with his illness. At the age of 45 he was diagnosed with diabetes, but that didn’t stop him from living a normal life with his family.
Stephen met his wife Mary in 1981, 31 years ago, both already having children. Stephen had two children, Son- Royal, the age of 5 and daughter Serina the age of 4. Mary had a son Brian just being 9 months. They instantly fell in love and moved in with each other, accepting each other’s children as their own. To unite their family, five years later in 1986 they joined hands in Holy Matrimony.
For fun family events they would spend the day at the beach, barbequing and relaxing by the pool. Steve would love to be a part of the children’s activities. For example, he coached Royal‘s baseball teams, Brian’s basketball teams, and was at every basketball and swim meet for Serina.
To add to their happy family, in 1989 Marrisa was born, for bonding moments with Marissa he would watch cartoons with her while she fell asleep on his big belly. Five year later, in 1994, to complete their family, Megan was born. As our family grew, so did our memories. He was a very involved dad and would get on the floor and play with Marrisa and Megan, and give piggy back rides. As the years went on he continued to work hard, stay involved in the families activities, kids sports, school events and maintaining a happy life with Mary.
Three years ago Stephen’s health would change due to a stroke and at the same time he was informed his kidneys were failing. But that didn’t stop him from trying to live a happy normal life. While he continued to work to help put one kid through college and the other finishing high school, he started dialysis over the next three years, sadly, his health deteriorated, which brought him to the point where he could no longer work. But he kept his spirit up and grew even closer to his family. This is when he formed a better relationship with the Lord and was attending church every Wednesday and every morning and evening services on Sunday.
On May 20th 2012, Steve had a massive heart attack which stopped his heart for eight minute s but he was a fighter and made it through. We were blessed to have him another 5 months. His remaining time spent with us was spent in the hospital. He continued to fight for his life in the hope of returning home. He lived as he died, a fighter, a father, a husband and a friend, but his beautiful life was brought to an end.
As the family looks back on Stephen’s life they appreciate everything he has done to provide for his family. He was such a generous man and always put others before himself. He was so giving and never expected anything in return.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his sons Royal and Brian, daughters Serina, Marissa, and Megan, and 6 grandchildren. We love you Dad. Rest in peace.
