Vance and I were teammates and friends for many years.   My wife and I would always visit him at his place in the desert whenever we were there.
Always enjoyed talking with him about old times, sports, etc.   The world has lost a great personality.

Uncle Vance you are missed by all of us your in our hearts and always will be to a very special person in my life. I know you auntie Mo and Mom and Dad and all that has passed from here are watching down on all of us.

Thinking of Pops and his goofy smile, contagious laugh and great tacos. He always went out of his way to make sure the "kids" were happy. I feel so lucky to have been one of those "kids".

Vance was one of the greatest Bruin athletes of all time, both in baseball and football.  He was very kind to me, when I arrived on campus as a tiny 13 year-old (1945).  Those were wonderful days growing up in Long Beach.  How lucky we were!

So sorry to hear of Vance's passing.  Your family made him so happy and comfortable keeping him at home these last years.  We will alway remember that smile and wry humor that lit up the PDCC all those good years.  God bless!

Vance was one of my boyhood heros. He inspired me and my fellow players in jr. high school, as we watched the 1947 game from left field, to go on to win the 1950 CIF championship. He was always warm and helpful to us. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear about your Pops.  He was always one of the funnest dads on the block.  Actually he acted more like all of our buddies.  He will missed in the Thurston family.  Great article in the PT today.
