Alice Margaret Arneson Cox

Cox, Alice Margaret passed away peacefully at Weyburn Special Care Home, Weyburn, Saskatchewan on the 9th of October, 2011 at the age of 96 years. Alice was predeceased by her husband Wilbert; her parents John and Bertha (Tondevold) Arneson; three brothers Art, John and Clarence Arneson; five sisters Lyla Arneson, Esther Jensen, Martha Krogsgaard, Rosie Mowrey, and Belle Snelling; and one grandson Roger Malley. Alice leaves to mourn, her son Darryl (Lorraine) Cox of Midale, SK.; daughter Beverley (Denis) Malley of Medicine Hat, AB.; granddaughter Joanne Alexander; grandsons Timothy (Sabine) Cox, Kevin Malley, Shaun (Rita) Malley; great grandchildren Bryn and Sam Alexander, Troy and Brandon Malley, Travis Malley, Vincent (Courtney) Malley; great-great grandson Landon Malley, granddaughter-in-law Josephine Malley; sister-in-law Gina Arneson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was born November 1, 1914 to John and Bertha Arneson. She grew up on a farm south of Milestone and attended Willow Creek School. On September 22, 1936 Alice married the love of her life Wilbert Cox. They farmed in the Lang and Milestone area until 1956 when they moved to Yellow Grass. Alice worked for Jim Pinning as a clerk in his grocery store and later in 1964 Alice and Wilbert operated Cox’s Variety Shop in Milestone until 1973. In 1984 they moved to Weyburn. Alice taught Sunday School and belonged to the United Church Ladies Group as well as the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed spending her time gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting and sewing. Alice and Wilbert celebrated their 60th Anniversary in 1996 with their family and friends. In June of 2000 Alice moved from her home to reside at the Weyburn Special Care Home. Alice had a love of music and singing, but her greatest love was for her husband and family- her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. from Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. Pallbearers are Russell Casler, Terry Mantei, David Snelling, Shaun Malley, John Arneson, and Eldon Jensen. Honourary Pallbearers are the members of Rebekah Lodge, and all in attendance. Fellowship will follow the service, at McKenna Hall, 317- 3rd Street, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Donations may be made in memory of Alice to the Weyburn Special Care Home.
