It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Gudrun Loustel on September 21, 2010 at the age of 79. You would have known our Mom fought debilitating arthritis for most of her life, she did so with a brave face, an open heart and mind, and a perseverance and determination that would never quit. She didn't let her disease and its progression stand in the way of living life to the fullest. We will miss her dearly, but are so grateful to have had our mom with us for so many years.
She will be remembered by her children: Wayne (Bev) of Leduc, AB and their daughter, Tresa (Brian) & Michael and son Chuck & Cassidy; Brenda (Ralph) Nabis of Regina, SK and their sons, Porter (Tammy) & Peyton, Pryce & Paxon, Pryor & Lee, Paige and Pearce, Preston (leah) & Parker Pace and Baylor; Bev (Brian) Kradovill of Weyburn, SK and their sons Chris (Amanda) & Jaxon and Chace and Josh (Lynsey); Lorne of Regina, Sk & Jordan (Lisa) and Charlette (Kevin) Niewchas of Camrose,AB & Brianna & Braeden; sisters, Lil (Rob) Farmer of Sidney, BC and Esther Wanner of Estevan, SK; sisters-in-law, Rose Wock, Wanda Kjersem, Thelma Kjersem and Liz Kjersem all of Estevan, Sk, as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their spouses have recieved the gift of Grandma's unending love and will keep her in their hearts always.
Gudy was born in Estevan, Sk on November 28, 1930. She was one of 9 children born to John and Dorothea Kjersem. She worked as a nurses aid at the hospital in her teen years. Every Friday night, she would go dancing with her sisters and that is where she met our father John. On April 12, 1950, they were married and started their family in Estevan. They moved to Stoughton in 1953, lived there until 1968, when they moved their family to Weyburn, until both of their passing. Our mother will be remembered for many things, but mostly for her love, selfless, kind and giving nature. As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she devoted herself to raising five children and running a large household. In 1958 they opened a service station and body shop in Stoughton, as if she was not busy enough raising a family in 1966 she opened an ice-cream stand, making the best homemade burgers and fries. In 1968 we packed up everything and moved to Weyburn where her and her husband ran the Allis Chalmers dealership where she did the books. She then went to work at the nursing home until her retirement. Everyone knew her. She had many friends and kept everyone laughing with her practical jokes.
She was a true Kjersem, if you came for a meal you were well fed with her never ending cooking and baking. Then caring for our father at home through his brief illness, she threw herself into helping her large family and following her grandchildren in many sports. Everyone knew when curling was on TV not to phone mom she was busy doing her job. BUT if you wanted to talk curling she would stay on the phone th whole game. Everyone who knew her loved and respected her. We will miss you but we have to let you go. Luv ya Mom always
